The transfer windows may be closed, but there is still scope for clubs to make the latest of additions to their squads via the free agent route.

Players who are unattached to clubs can move freely without the restriction of the transfer window, so there are plenty of players without a contract still in limbo with the season already underway.

Aitor Karanka has made 14 signings this summer both on loan and on a permanent basis.

Forest have had an inauspicious start to the new campaign, sitting on seven points from their first six games having one once and registering four draws.

After a huge influx of players, it will undoubtedly take time for them all to gel, but Karanka might feel, after the indifferent start, he wants to add more to his current assembly of players.

And to do that he would have to use the market of players unattached to clubs.

With that said, here are six free agents that are still available for Nottingham Forest to complete deals for.

Jan Kirchhoff’s career has been blighted by injuries in recent seasons and is currently without a club after leaving Bolton Wanderers at the end of the season.

Having helped keep the Trotters up now could be a good time to get the former Sunderland defender in.

The 27-year-old who was once of Bayern Munich and formerly a Germany U21 international would be a dependable addition to the City Ground if he were to stay fit.

The pacey winger is a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace and would be the perfect spark to ignite the wings at the City Ground.

His best form came at Wolverhampton Wanderers which interested Palace ahead of a move to the London club.

Aitor Karanka would have to act fast though as with Wilfred Zaha injured at Selhurst Park; the winger could potentially make a move back to the club he left in the summer

Another player to leave Crystal Palace in the summer, Chung-Yong Lee only played seven times last term and is another wide option that Aitor Karanka could pursue.

Alternatively, the South Korea international can operate in the middle of the park and be the lynchpin between the two advanced third of the pitch.

The 30-year-old Premier League veteran is someone who will be looking to get back in the game, and Forest could do with his trickery to unlock opposition defences.

Nottingham Forest have only kept one clean sheet all season, and adding to their defensive ranks could be something manager Aitor Karanka looks at.

Signing James Collins who has been without a club since is release by West Ham would be a signing that adds significant experience to the Forest backline.

At 35-years-old it would be a signing that would be for the short-term but would add more rigidity at the back for the Championship club.

The 32-year-old left Italian side Genoa at the end of the season and has never plied his trade in England.

Miguel Veloso is a Portugal international, and with the influx of Portuguese players to the City Ground, they could persuade the former Sporting Lisbon man to move to the Championship.

If a move were to come about it would be some coup for a club looking to play an expansive, free-flowing type of football - and that would undoubtedly benefit Aitor Karanka’s men and suit Veloso himself.

Although Dimitar Berbatov is 37-years-old, adding him to the City Ground would be a coup if only for the experience be boasts in world football.

A free agent after leaving Indian side Kerala Blasters, the ex-Bulgaria international could have one more season in him, and there would be no better place than the Championship.

Imagine Matty Cash learning off the former Tottenham and Manchester United striker.

The experience would be invaluable and immeasurable to the younger forwards in the team, let alone the rest of the side.

It wouldn’t be a bad short-term signing if it were to happen.
