Millwall surprised everyone last season, coming up from League One and then mounting a serious challenge on the top six.

Ultimately, it was futile, but their dogged resolve and togetherness saw them succeed in finishing higher than teams with far bigger bank balances and resources.

That is the 'Millwall way' though, blending players not necessarily big stars into something far greater than the sum of it's parts.

Whilst that approach will work for so long, eventually some quality has to be injected into the side. Recently, they've sold George Saville, another great find, and replaced him with Ryan Leonard. There's profit there, but is that at the expense of progress?

Neil Harris would claim not and the money from Saville's sale will undoubtedly go towards the whole club, not just his replacement.

There could be more incomings, the free agent market is still very much available to clubs and perhaps Millwall can find another gem buried amongst the heap of footballers currently cast aside by other clubs.

FLW looks at six free agents that could still sign for the Lions.

Traore is a giant of a man and no stranger to these shores, having been on loan at Everton.

He's clearly got pedigree but can't currently find a club. At almost 6ft 8in tall he could be a great focal point for the Lions attacks and, given the right service from the flanks, could be deadly.

Iloki is a 26-year old wide midfielder who has previously been with Nantes in France.

Having missed out on Ben Marshall, perhaps Millwall need some pace and creativity from out wide. Iloki isn't a household name, but who is when they break through at the Den?

He's a veteran of sorts, yes. He's also a striker with a long and varied career who could add value to the Lions attack, even from the bench.

He was last seen playing in China but is now a free agent again and has nothing but top-flight experience to draw from.

Released by QPR, Lua Lua is just the sort of cast-off that Neil Harris could turn into a real treasure.

He's made 220 appearances in his career and played lots of Championship football for a good Brighton side.

At 27, he shouldn't be on the scrapheap yet.

Ince is another ex-Brighton player who has slipped out of public view, but another who has got value left in him.

He was in League One with Bury last season and that's been a damaging spell, but perhaps he could offer cover in the middle of the park for Neil Harris.

484 career matches, 51 goals; Ross Wallace has been there and done it. Just three years ago he was in the Premier League with Burnley and in total he's had a decade of Championship experience.

He would add value to the Millwall squad, he might not be as quick as he once was, but a good delivery and touch never leaves you.
