The transfer windows may be closed, but there is still scope for clubs to make the latest of additions to their squads via the free agent route.

Players who are unattached to clubs can move freely without the restriction of the transfer window, so there are plenty of players without a contract still in limbo with the season already underway.

Garry Monk has had a difficult time of it this summer, with the club placed under a transfer embargo, it was lifted with restrictions to signing five loan players with a cap on salaries allowed.

And that lack of business in either of the transfer periods has shown on the pitch with the Blues currently 20th in the Championship and only one of three teams left to record their first win of the season, picking up just two points in their opening six games.

Monk might look to the free agent market in order to add much-needed depth to his squad which is thin on numbers after EFL sanctions.

With that said, here are six free agents that are still available for Birmingham City to complete deals for.

The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder was a much sought-after man when the Trotters were relegated from the Premier League.

Now, however, he finds himself without a club since his release from the Lancashire side back at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Having had time out of the game now could be the perfect opportunity to join a club seeking fresh acquisitions as Garry Monk looks to strengthen his side.

Davies’ playing style would suit how the Birmingham boss wants his team to operate on match-days.

Birmingham City lack bite in midfield and Claudio Yacob would certainly add that.

The former West Bromwich Albion midfielder would not have too far to travel if he moved to St. Andrews and would add much-needed steel to the middle third of the pitch.

Yacob will be sought after now that all the attached players have moved during the windows, so if Monk wants him he might have to move quickly.

Having just been released by Blackburn Rovers, Peter Whittingham finds himself without a club, and Birmingham City need players - so there is a match there already.

Having preciously played for Aston Villa, the winger would know the area well, and to a degree, the club, too.

At 33, his best years may be behind him, but talent never fades, and the midfielder would add something lacking to the Blues side, and he would be an extra option should Monk wish to move for the winger.

After his release from Norwich City, Wes Hoolahan could be a potential target for Garry Monk.

The former Ireland international would add grace, panache and creativity that the current Birmingham midfield lacks.

It should be a move that Monk should pursue in order to bolster his side who are light all over the pitch right now.

Conceding goals is an issue for Birmingham City, and defender Nedum Onuoha is without a club.

The 31-year-old would be a good option for Garry Monk who is desperate for reinforcements, and the former QPR defender could be a decent addition to St. Andrews.

A reliable defender who is not too bad with the ball at his feet, the former Man City centre-half could be a viable option for the Blues if a move is sanctioned.

Goals, too, have been an issue for Garry Monk’s side who have the second least amount of goals in the division.

He has been at a few Championship games this season looking to make his way back into the English game after a spell in China with Beijing Enterprises.

The former Everton, West Brom and Sunderland striker could be a decent free option for Garry Monk to attempt to sign.
