Burton Albion did exceptionally well to survive in their maiden Championship season last time around but with 15 games of this season remaining, they find themselves rock bottom of the league, four points adrift of safety.
It has been a tough season so far for Nigel Clough’s side as they have tried their utmost to battle against the odds given the higher budgets of their divisional rivals.
Record signing Liam Boyce is only just coming back now after suffering a pre-season injury that wiped him out for a large chunk of the season and of course their rivals have become more accustomed to their approach and have adjusted accordingly.
Therefore, the performances of forward Lucas Akins will be pivotal if they are to survive and we’ve run the numbers to put his performance under the spotlight.
Four goals and six assists are not the numbers of someone who is going to tear up the division but it shows he does pose a threat and that is what every team who is down there at the bottom is looking for.
Burton have struggled for confidence and if they can just create more opportunities to improve on Akins’ ratio of 1.2 shots per game, he could grab them the results to jump up off the bottom.
