Sheffield United enjoyed a memorable weekend after their victory over Ipswich combined with Leeds' failure to win officially confirmed their promotion to the Premier League.

It's an outstanding achievement from Chris Wilder and his players who have been consistent throughout the campaign and performer much better than their rivals despite an inferior budget.

They went into the game on Saturday against the Tractor Boys knowing that three points would realistically seal a return to the top-flight due to a superior goal difference over the Whites.

And, the Blades dominated throughout, with defender Jack O'Connell on form for the hosts - as our graphic shows.

The former Brentford centre-back has been superb on the left side of Wilder's back three and he displayed his all-round qualities at Bramall Lane.

As usual, he dominated the opposition forwards, with six aerial duels won and two clearances highlighting how he is physically strong and has good positional sense.

Yet, what makes O'Connell stand out from other centre-backs in the league is his ability to get forward and how he often overlaps from his wide centre-back position.

He did that again against Ipswich and it was his run and delivery that set up Scott Hogan for the crucial opening goal that eased any nerves there may have been for the Yorkshire club.

The 25-year-old then confirmed the win with a towering header from a corner that meant Sheffield United could play out the final 20 minutes with ease, knowing they had one foot firmly in the top-flight.

It capped off a fine afternoon and fine season for O'Connell who has contributed more than most to the Blades promotion.
