So far, it's been steady if unspectacular for Sheffield Wednesday this season with them in mid-table and looking to get into the play-offs.

Indeed, they're four points away from the top six and after beating Leeds United last time out they will surely feel as though they can get into those positions before too long.

Consistency, though, is what is needed most of all and that is something Carlos Carvalhal will look to instill more of into his side once the international break is over.

The Portuguese boss may look to January to boost their challenge further, though, and we've been thinking ahead as to who the club should sign in that window.

For sure, there are areas in which the Owls could improve if they are to make it into the top six come the end of the campaign and so, with that in mind, here are two players they should look to sign...

Lamine Kone

Rated at £6.3m by transfermarkt, Lamine Kone is one of the strongest defensive talents in the league at the moment but that is not coming through enough to help Sunderland right now.

For sure, though, it was a surprise no-one tried to pick him up in the summer and now the Black Cats are still struggling, he'll surely want a move.

Wednesday, with the likes of Joost van Aken splitting fan opinion could do with another centre-half.

Reiss Nelson

Arsenal usually have top young players coming through but Nelson seems an extra cut above and is one of the most fancied to make it for some time.

He's still very young and raw but he is a real nuisance where he can play either down the flank or up top and he'd certainly be the sort of player Owls fans would love.

Wednesday could do with some extra pace and attacking threat and Nelson would surely deliver that.
