Tony Pulis could bolster his side with some free transfers this summer.

Middlesbrough look likely to finish in the play-offs because they are currently in fifth place with a three point gap on Millwall in seventh and just two games remaining.

They will be quietly confident of their chances with the experienced Tony Pulis in charge.

He has come in halfway through a season and all but ensured a play-off finish, so he has certainly had a big impact on the club. However, he will want to make the squad more his own in the summer regardless of the league they are in.

Here are six free agents that would fit in well at Boro...

Hutton is out of contract with Villa at the end of the season. He would be a useful addition to Middlesbrough as competition for Ryan Shotton in the right-back role.

The Scottish full-back isn't the most talented, but he would be a reliable option to bring in. He has plenty of experience across the Championship and the Premier League with that being more important to Pulis than his age. His versatility is useful as well because he can play as a left-back if needed.

Odubajo picked up a major knee injury which required multiple surgeries and he only recovered from it in March this year after being out for 19 months. Although he is yet to play for the Hull first-team this season.

Prior to the injury, he was carving out a reputation as one of the most talented full-backs in the Championship. He is another potentially useful right-back to bring in as a free agent because he is still only 24-years-old and could be a bargain if he regains his form.

Obviously injuries are a worry, but he would be worth the risk on a one or two-year contract.

Tettey is a capable defensive midfielder that Pulis could use to anchor the midfield as a rotation option for Muhamed Besic.

He is 32-years-old, so he is past his peak and isn't a good long-term option, but he could be a useful squad player for Pulis to use. Bringing him on as a substitute to close out tough games could be another way to use him because he would help shut down central areas and stifle the opposition midfield.

Boro could pick up another free agent bargain from Hull by acquiring Meyler. He is another defensive midfield free agent option that could be brought in with his defensive contribution being his strong point.

Pulis showed at West Brom that he likes to have multiple defensive midfielders in his team in order to close off central areas, which makes set pieces and crossing the key areas of attack. Therefore, Meyler could fill this role.

Reid would be the hardest to bring in out of anyone on this list, and it would be dependent on whether Boro achieved promotion.

Bristol City also have the option to extend his contract by a year, but Reid may decide to leave.

Pulis doesn't appear to be convinced by Britt Assombalonga even though his predecessor brought him in for £15 million, so Reid could be used as the main goalscoring threat in this team which would suit him. He has 19 league goals for the Robins this season which shows the threat he possesses.

Hernandez is valued at £6.3 million according to Transfermarkt, so getting him on a free would be an absolute bargain. Injuries have limited him this season, but he is one of the best strikers in the division.

The Uruguayan international's physical style and clinical finishing would be ideal for a Pulis team in a similar way to how Salomon Rondon fitted in at his previous club West Brom.
