Cardiff City have confounded the odds this season and held their nerve lately to go within six points of the Championship summit.

They travel to Brentford this weekend in search of another three points to secure their place in the division's top two and the make-up of Neil Warnock's Bluebirds squad makes what they are doing all the more impressive.

One man who has played a pivotal part is Sol Bamba. In an era where ball-playing, younger centre-halves are in fashion, Bamba is something of a throwback.

He is physical, uncompromising and essentially a perfect fit for a Neil Warnock side. For that reason, he is the next man to be put under the FLW spotlight as we run the numbers and look at his season so far...

The numbers basically show that Bamba is very good at doing the defensive dirty work, as well as chipping in at the other end with the odd goal too.

Clearances, headers, tackles and interceptions are the bedrock of old-school defending and that is all Warnock needs him to do between now and the end of the season.

If he can, it will go a long way to keeping the Bluebirds' promotion bid on track.
