Swansea City will be disappointed with their first season back in the Championship under Graham Potter, with the club out of contention for a top six spot barring a massive late season miracle.

The Swans have struggled for consistency, often putting in good performances against some of the better teams in the league, but then failing to put away clubs in the bottom echelons of the table, costing them valuable points in the hunt for promotion.

Potter by no means has disgraced himself at the Welsh club, and he'll no doubt be given the chance to go again next season with another summer giving him the chance to really focus on the areas of the squad he will feel improvements can be made.

However, while adding new players will be key for Potter, so will keeping hold of his top stars, such as striker Oli McBurnie, who has once again been linked with a £5m move away from the club.

The 22-year-old striker has fired in an impressive 17 goals this season and seen his stock rise further for the Swans in a season where he was in all fairness, expected to deliver.

But deliver he has, and now with clubs looking at signing him, Swansea simply can't afford to sell their key attacker if they are realistic about getting themselves back in the Premier League over the coming seasons.

McBurnie has proved himself to one of the Championship's most influential strikers, and he's a player who Swansea would struggle to replace, especially if they do indeed only get the £5m fee for him that has been banded about.

That sort of money does not get you much these days in terms of top class strikers, and while McBurnie will have a price that the club are willing to accept, this just seems to low.

Swansea need to keep their best players if they are to challenge, and McBurnie is in that bracket at the Liberty Stadium.

Big, strong, and with room for even more improvement next season, the Scot will be key for the Swans if they want to see any sort of success heading into 2019/20.
