With the news that Patrick Bamford is to be sidelined for four months through injury, plenty of Leeds United fans feel a free signing is needed to cover the loss of the 25-year-old.

United’s summer signing picked up a posterior cruciate ligament injury in an U23s win over Bristol City last Friday and the initial prognosis was one that had the club quietly confident that it would be a short-term injury.

Leeds, however, have confirmed the injury will keep the former Boro man out for at least four months.

FLW took to Twitter to ask Whites’ fans if they felt a signing was needed and they responded in their droves to come to the conclusion that the club indeed needed to fill the void of Bamford’s injury with an addition from the unattached market.

Despite the transfer windows being closed, free agents are able to move to clubs without restriction, and many Leeds fans believe this is something that needs to be looked into.

Going one step further, we took to Twitter this time to ask Leeds fans if they felt a move for striker Lacina Traore on a free transfer would be worthwhile.

The 28-year-old is currently out-of-contract having left Monaco in the summer.

It was an overwhelming majority in favour of Leeds pursuing the signing of the Ivory Coast international, with 59 per cent of the vote in agreement the club need a striker and Traore is a solid replacement for the injured Bamford.

Conversely, 41 per cent of Leeds fans polled felt the former CSKA Moscow loanee would not be the right signing for the club to provide back-up for the sidelined forward.

The reason could be the knee-jerk nature of needing to add a player when there are academy options, despite Kemar Roofe being the only senior striker at the club at present.

Time will tell if Marcelo Bielsa has any reinforcements liked up, or he choses to instead pick the option of youth instead of a player who will only really offer a benefit to Leeds until Bamford is fit.
