Leeds United have missed Kyle Bartley this season, with Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper struggling to have the same impact alongside Pontus Jansson at the heart of defence.

Conor Shaughnessy has also featured in defence on occasion this season, but whatever duo has stepped out for Leeds has struggled to have the same impact as Bartley and Jansson last year.

Central defence will be an area that Paul Heckingbottom will look to strengthen in the summer, and one player who could be on his radar is Dael Fry, who is the latest feature in our FLW Spotlight:

Fry has been part of the Middlesbrough squad challenging for the play-offs this season, but the 20-year-old has found himself behind the likes of Ben Gibson and Daniel Ayala.

The youngster has featured on 13 occasions so far this season for the Teessiders, registering one assist from defence.

Of course, that isn’t what Fry is judged on and a closer look at his defensive contribution tells a better story.

Fry has won 49% of his aerial duels so far this season, whilst he has also recorded a tackle success rate of 58%.

In possession, the defender has averaged 48.3 passes per game, which come at a success rate of 79%.
