Leeds United are keeping an eye on Steve Bruce’s situation at Aston Villa, as Andrea Radrizzani continues to consider axing Paul Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom took charge at Elland Road back in February, but managed to pick up just four victories, as Leeds stumbled to a 13th placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

Radrizzani is prepared to make a third managerial change in 12 months, as the Italian owner looks to guide Leeds back to the Premier League.

According to the Daily Star, Leeds are casting an eye over Bruce’s situation at Villa Park following Villa’s play-off final defeat to Fulham on Saturday afternoon, in case Bruce becomes available.

Tom Cairney’s first-half goal at Wembley settled a tight contest between Fulham and Villa, with Bruce missing out on a fifth promotion to the Premier League.

Previously, the 57-year-old won promotion with Birmingham City twice and Hull City on two occasions.

Bruce led Villa to fourth in the Championship table during the 2017/18 campaign, helping them to significantly improve on their mid-table finish the previous year.

The Verdict

Bruce has done a good job previously in the Championship, with his promotion record speaking for itself.

On paper, he would be a good option to lead Leeds into next season, should he become available.

A managerial change is beginning to look inevitable at Elland Road, but it is a surprise to see Leeds taking a look at someone like Bruce.

Many would’ve expected a European coach, who is used to the European set-up Radrizzani has opted for, to be targeted.
