Steve McClaren has been sacked as manager of Championship club Queens Park Rangers after less than a year in charge, but one man who has no sympathy for him is former Rs boss Ian Holloway.

McClaren departs Loftus Road with the club currently 17th in the Championship table, just eight points above the relegation zone, after a poor run of just one win from 15 league matches.

Holloway left his second spell in charge of QPR in May 2018 after 18 months at the helm, with one year still remaining on his contract and was immediately replaced by McClaren.

The 56-year-old has no sympathy for the former England boss, claiming that McClaren spoke to the club's chairman behind his back while he was still in charge.

“He took my job,” Holloway told talkSPORT.

“I still had another year left at the club.  I’m still being paid by them now. He was talking to the chairman while I was in the job, saying what he’d do. He hasn’t been able to do that.

“What goes around comes around. Where the hell are the young lads I was told to bring through? I was told to promote the youth and bring people in who cared about the club, it’s not happening."

Holloway claimed that he is not bitter about McClaren taking his job and wished his successor, whoever that may be, good luck in the role.

“I felt I was in the best position to do that job. I wanted an extension on my contract. The owners made their choice and that’s football at the end of the day,” said the former Rs boss.

Holloway also claimed that he would consider a return to the club and said he believed the club's director of football Les Ferdinand did not want him to leave.

The Verdict:

If what Holloway is saying is true, then it's easy to understand why he has no sympathy for the former England boss.

After an encouraging start to this season, it hasn't worked out for McClaren at QPR and the club are now in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle.

Rs fans will be hoping that whoever replaces him can turn the club's form around.
