55-y/o emerges as potential managerial target for Luton Town

Published

Luton Town are on the search for a new manager, after announcing that they have parted company with Graeme Jones.

Jones had been with the club since May 2019, and his departure certainly came as a surprise after the club were unbeaten in their last three matches in the Championship.

It has recently been reported by Yorkshire Live that Nigel Adkins is on the managerial shortlist that the Hatters have in place during the EFL break.

Adkins has been out of work since he opted not to sign a new deal with Hull City after the 2018/19 season. The 55-year-old has previously worked with the likes of Reading and Southampton earlier in his career.

Luton are currently sat 23rd in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can fire themselves out of the relegation zone at the earliest of opportunities.

However, that survival bid has been put on hold for the time being, with recent off-the-field events bringing an abrupt halt to the sporting calendar in the UK.

No scheduled return date has been put in place as of yet, but it seems likely that this year’s campaign will be completed, rather than the season being voided.

The Kenilworth Road faithful will be hoping that they can have a new permanent manager in the dugout for when they do return to action, as they look to survive in their first season back in the second tier.

WHO IS THE PLAYER?

The Verdict:

I think this would be a fantastic appointment for Luton Town.

Adkins shouldn’t be judged harshly for his time with Hull City, as they had a number of off-the-field problems to deal with whilst he was in charge of the club.

Plenty of the Luton Town supporters would have been surprised to see the club part company with Graeme Jones, but Adkins is a manager that is well-known for trying to bring positivity into a team.

That’s exactly what Luton need at the moment heading into the final nine games of the season, and Adkins would be more than capable of steering them to safety in the Championship.
