Former Hull City manager Nigel Adkins is in the frame to become the new manager of Huddersfield Town, according to reports from the Yorkshire Post.

The Terriers are still on the lookout for a new manager after axing Jan Siewert last week, with the German winning just one game in charge since arriving at the John Smith's Stadium in January.

Town have failed to pick a league win and have lost four out of their opening five league games this season, after being relegated from the Premier League last term.

Mark Hudson has taken temporary charge of the Terriers following the dismissal of Siewert, but after two defeats in the matter of the days under his guidance, a new manager with fresh ideas looks likely to be an option for Town now.

The Yorkshire Post claim that Nigel Adkins is in the frame to become the new manager of Huddersfield. The 54-year-old left Hull City upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season, and has been close to becoming Town manager before.

Adkins won 26 out of 78 games in charge of the Tigers under tough conditions at the KCOM Stadium. He led them to a 13th placed finish in the Championship last season, despite challenging for a play-off spot towards the end of the campaign.

Adkins is also familiar with Huddersfield's new head of football operations David Webb, after he worked closely with him during his time at Southampton, though there have been applicants from abroad too.

The Verdict

I think that a manager like Adkins could be an excellent appointment for Huddersfield given his job with Hull last season.

Despite managing under tough financial conditions and starting off the season poorly, something seemed to click and he got the best out of his players after time and patience.

He will know Fraizer Campbell particularly well too, and his goals along with Karlan Grant's could be beneficial for the Terriers.
