Fortuna Dusseldorf manager Uwe Rosler has suggested that he has not had any contact with Preston North End regarding their vacant managerial role, with the German club set to decide on his future in the next few weeks.

A recent report from the Daily Mail has suggested that Rosler is a potential contender to replace Alex Neil at Deepdale. The Lilywhites are thought to be interested in the German due to his Championship experience and also his ability to work within a tight budget. However, Preston are yet to decide on who they want as their next head coach and are weighing up their options.

Rosler has endured a challenging campaign with Fortuna Dusseldorf and the club are currently in 5^th place in the German second division, which means their chances of securing an immediate return to the Bundesliga are starting to look slim. According to a report from BILD, the German club are set to make a decision over whether they want to retain him for next season in the next few weeks.

Speaking to BILD over his potential future, Rosler suggested that his first thoughts are to try and stay with his current club and he insisted that he has not had any contact from Preston or any other clubs regarding his potential future.

He said: “To be honest: I haven’t spoken with anyone, not to any other club. My first point of contact was, is and will be definitely be Fortuna.”

The verdict

From this latest update, it does seem that Rosler’s future is going to become a lot clearer in the next couple of weeks, and if the decision is made by his current club to allow him to leave at the end of the campaign then that could open the door for Preston. However, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites would make a move for him if he comes available.

Rosler does seem a potentially solid option for them to turn to, although it would not be an appointment that would be majorly exciting to supporters at this stage. The German has done good work with the likes of Brentford and Wigan Athletic in England before and is known for playing good attractive football, which could be something that North End aim to instil for next term.

However, it seems that Rosler has been slightly underperforming this season with his current club in the German second division. That means that he would be coming into Deepdale off the back of a disappointing campaign. Although it would mean that he has a point to prove.
