Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira has emerged as the latest name to be considered for the vacant managerial role at Reading Football Club, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Berkshire club parted company with Paul Clement last week after just four wins in the league this term, with the Royals languishing at the lower echelons of the Sky Bet Championship table in 22nd position.

News has now surfaced that Shanghai SIPG manager Pereira is a contender for the job, with reports claiming that he flew over to the UK this week, having just won the Chinese Super League.

The 50-year-old has been at the helm of the Chinese outfit for just over a year - winning 27 out of 41 games, and also has experience of managing Olympiacos and Fenerbache, where he accrued a win rate of 60% and 61.29% respectively.

It's at Portuguese club Porto where Pereira succeeded at most - he won two successive league titles during his two year stint with the club, and has won 7 major trophies in his career.

Luis Castro turned down the Royals after speculation linked him with the vacant role, and former player and current Bolton boss Phil Parkinson has also been linked with a move to the Madejski Stadium.

The Verdict

On paper, Pereira looks like a decent manager.

He has a good win percentage rate in his managerial career and has been successful at high profile European clubs like Porto.

This could be a really good appointment for Reading, and they should definitely hire him over the likes of Phil Parkinson.
