After their play-off final was confirmed, Wednesday will already have an eye on their acquisitions for next season.

After spending tonnes of money on players this season, people have harshly been hammering the South Yorkshire club for buying the league, that could not be further from the truth.

The acquisition of Hooper, Forestieri, Bannan have stooped Fulham, Cardiff, QPR for example, who over past seasons have spent extortionate Championship funds, for poor Championship finishes.

Wednesday have spent well, acquired well and played well.

Their new found philosophy under Portuguese miracle worker Carlos Carvalhal, sees them sitting a damned sight further away from that of previous seasons.

Wednesday look strong and will be aspiring to place the icing on the cake by winning the Yorkshire derby at Wembley.

FLW's Conor McGilligan has selected FIVE players Wednesday cannot afford to miss out on this summer.......

Paddy McNair

After some speculation in January of McNair's arrival at Hillsborough, the Northern Ireland international may be a target for the South Yorkshire outfit if they reach the promised land.

McNair was originally sought after on loan, but if Wednesday can make the Premier League the out of favour youngster could be persuaded to take the leap over the pennines.

Van Gaal is sticking with experience with Smalling and Blind commanding the centre back positions this season.

McNair is comfortable in possession, composed under pressure and has the ability to demand and command, an asset which seems to now be embedded into the furniture at Wednesday.

Joshua Onomah

Josh Onomah0

Perhaps the most talented youngster available in this window is midfielder Josh Onomah.

His pace in the division looked relatively frightening, and his role in the Wednesday midfield would be a paramount one.

After making 13 appearances this season and shining on all cylinders, including impressing during a 4th round tie against Colchester, Onomah is one for the future.

After the push by the manager Onomah has been put to the back of the pecking order and even after a contract was agreed he looks to be the 4th or even 5th player in his recognised position.

Pochettino has given him a push this season and has a few Europa League appearances under his belt, along with some league appearances from the bench.

The Argentine may feel it is beneficial for Onomah to seek some experience in either the Championship or lower level Premier League, either or it would be a win-win, both clubs benefitting.

Alan Judge

Alan JudgeAlan Judge

If Wednesday can solidify their place in the top league then Judge's head will surely be turned.

Not even this feat has to be achieved for the newly revitalised Wednesday to attract the gracious playmaker to their club, with the ambition on show this season.

The Championship's standout performer this season, uncapped Irishman Alan Judge is pushing hard for a place in Martin O'Neill's Euro 2016 squad, after a series of outstanding displays at Griffin Park.

Having struggled to make the grade at Blackburn in two separate spells, Judge has been a pivotal part of the Bees rise from League One.

And this term, while Brentford haven't hit the heights of 2014-15, Judge has only moved his game forwards.

Dominic Iorfa

Plucked from Southend's academy at the age of 15, Dominic Iorfa, now 20, stands out among Championship full-backs - and not just because he stands 6ft 2in.

An England Under-21 international, the lanky defender was called up by senior boss Roy Hodgson to train with the seniors at St George's Park in September, having impressed with his form for Wolves not only at the start of the current campaign, but also after breaking into the team last season.

Wednesday would really show their prowess in the national market if they could attract such a talent, realistic? Yes with the new look Wednesday looking to make strides.

Lewis Dunk

After a forgettable campaign in this play-offs yet again for Dunk, his head may eventually be turned to a move to another club.

Wednesday are showing ambition and promise, in only a couple of seasons they have cemented themselves as a superior Championship and maybe soon to be Premier League outfit.

Dunk has been a first team regular all season, and attracted plenty of attention in January only for Brighton to hang onto their star defender.

After Brighton's misfortunes have once again reared their ugly head many clubs will surely be sniffing around Dunk.

He is likely to command a hefty fee, but looks every bit worth it at the moment, and has every chance of competing in the Premier League with Brighton as it stands.
