Leeds United need a big 2016/17 season if they are to finish in the play-off places, but so far there are encouraging signs.

Under boss Steve Evans, they have risen to 13th a placed finish, their highest in years, but the Scotsman's days are numbered with Cellino outspoken in the notion that he wants a new man at the helm of United.

New signings are likely whether they be permanent or loan deals from Premier League sides.

If the Yorkshire club want to be serious about pushing for promotion the must invest in the summer, as the current squad will not be able to compete in the higher echelons of the division next season.

Jason Cummings

Hibernian striker Jason Cummings has been in prolific form in Scotland, attracting interest from several Championship clubs.

It has been reported that Leeds are one of these sides, but they will be hoping for a bigger impact than their last signing from north of the border, with summer addition Lee Erwin failing to make an impact so far.

Cummings has had a stunning season at Easter Road, scoring 25 goals in 47 appearances.

And Leeds are likely to be in the market for a new striker with Mirco Antenucci set to leave the club.

Fellow strikers Souleymane Doukara and Lee Erwin may not be at the club next season as both have failed to provide in front of goal.

Liam Bridcutt

It’s probably right to start with the obvious.

Bridcutt has added so much steel into the heart of Leeds’ midfield this season.

Bringing Bridcutt in on loan was seen as a bit of a coup from Evans.

He hasn’t let him down at all.

The Leeds midfield needs assurance and with Bridcutt the likes of Cook and Mowatt are given more freedom and are less likely to make mistakes and lack cover.

Zach Clough

The highly rated forward famously turned down a last minute transfer deadline day move to Bristol City to fight for Bolton’s survival in the Championship.

As we know now, Bolton didn’t survive and now they need to fight to keep hold of Clough. With the tightened financial restraints on the club they will probably end up selling for the less than the £2 million Bristol City offered.

Leeds, if they join the race for Clough will be a number of clubs in line to get his signature. But a club with youth at the heart of everything they stand for may attract him.

Will Grigg

will grigg

The Wigan hitman has set League One on fire with his goal scoring heroics, and will surely be chased by a number of Championship clubs.

We’ve seen recently, past players can carry on the momentum of good form through the lower leagues and take that with them.

Grigg is someone who can certainly change a game with a quick turn of pace and would link up well with Wood.

Grigg is my number 1 pick for Leeds this summer. A definite try at least.

David Bentley

Daniel Bentleyll

At only 22, a tender age for a goalkeeper, Bentley has proved a consistent performer in this, his third season as Southend’s first-choice keeper.

Leeds have been linked heavily with him in the past.

Silvestri needs real competition for the number one jersey at Elland Road and with Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s future in doubt - with him still waiting to sign his new deal.

Bentley would be the more experienced understudy and who knows could command the shirt for some years to come.
