Leeds United are looking to get their season back on track following their 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The Whites slumped to their third defeat of 2020 following the defeat to the Latics, leaving the gap between themselves and third place to just three points.

Only one of United's three January signings made the matchday squad on Saturday, with Ian Poveda having to watch the whole 90 minutes from the bench.

Some fans were surprised that Jean-Kevin Augustin wasn't part of the 18, with many starting to ask when will they see their new striker in action.

Although only signing three players, United's transfer window felt like a drawn out process and fans had to wait 21 days for their first January signing to be announced.

Here we take a look at five regrets United may have looking back on the month...

It is no secret that Marcelo Bielsa likes to work with a smaller squad, and has utilised a number of United's players in various positions.

Whilst some of these players such as Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski have adapted well, some fans may feel that United had to strengthen in depth.

United still have six games left to play in February's busy schedule and should the side pick up some injuries over this time, some fans will no doubt be scratching their heads as to why the club didn't add extra reinforcements.

As we mentioned in the intro, United fans had to wait three weeks for their first January signing to arrive at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa has always liked to give his new arrivals time and rarely puts a player straight into his side, but with Leeds struggling for results some are questioning why their new signings are yet to feature.

Ian Poveda has made the 18 of the last two matches, but Jean-Kevin Augustin is yet to feature in a matchday squad.

Leeds may look back and regret they didn't get their business done early this transfer window in time for the players to get up to speed for a busy February schedule.

United have gone from having one of the best back lines in the whole country to not keeping a clean sheet in nine league games.

Since their 2-0 win over Hull City in December, the Whites have conceded 17 goals in the Championship, taking their tally of conceded goals from 10 to 27.

Liam Cooper and Ben White are in no doubt United's first choice centre-halves but with only Gaetano Berardi and occasionally Luke Ayling as back ups in that position, some would have been forgiven in wanting the club to bring in another defender in the January window.

Jean-Kevin Augustin's arrival was met with genuine excitement from large parts of United's fanbase and the signing could genuinely turn out to be a huge coup for the Whites.

However, Augustin has never played in the Championship and whilst he is getting up to speed at his new club, some could be forgiven for thinking Leeds should have opted for someone with Championship experience.

A lot was made about United's failed pursuit of Che Adams, and although the failure was largely down to Southampton's stubbornness, United may regret not bringing in an experienced Championship striker should Augustin fail to hit the ground running.

Other than securing the services of Ian Poveda from Manchester City, United didn't really take advantage of those available in the Premier League.

There was the pursuit of Che Adams and the interest of Andre Gray, but other than that Leeds may have potentially missed out on bringing some Premier League experience or an upcoming star.

Examples of this could be James Chester, who joined Stoke City from Aston Villa, or Emile Smith Rowe, who has linked up with Huddersfield Town on loan from Arsenal.

Should United suffer an injury crisis or realise they need the strength in depth, then missing out on some of the Premier League's availability could be a real regret.
