Bolton Wanderers entered the New Year looking to consolidate their current squad rather than looking to make wholesale changes across the board, given their financial situation.

Keith Hill's side currently find themselves bottom of League One after starting the season with a 12-point deduction but have managed to steady the ship and stop their rapid decline with some respectable results in the league.

It's been a tough season under Hill and it would take a miracle for them to retain their League One status by the end of the season, but the players and manager are looking to continue their work to lift the spirits after they started the season in the footballing abyss.

Bolton entered the transfer window under a transfer embargo, which has limited the signings that they can make in the window, but they still managed to bring in a total of 10 players while letting nine others leave in that time.

The question is now that whether Bolton may have any regrets over how the transfer window went, so we take a look at five potential regrets...

The first regret would be letting Liam Bridcutt's loan finish and not bringing him back in for a second stint. He has now joined Lincoln City on-loan for the rest of the season.

His solidity in the middle of midfield is something that Bolton will miss for the rest of the season and while they might have struggled to bring him back, it's still a shame to see him not return.

The Stoke City winger was a key member of the side in the first half of the season and was recalled by the Potters for the remainder of the campaign.

While their hands were pretty much tied, it's a huge blow and a really low point for the transfer window.

The injury to Will Buckley has left Bolton very light in wide positions, especially on the right-wing, and while they have brought in two left-wingers in the shape of Anthony Georgiou and Joe Doodoo, they seem light on the other side.

No one can predict such a bad injury to one of your key players, but bringing in cover would have prevented this being such a huge blow.

Daryl Murphy has been in solid form for Bolton this season but there isn't any other player who strikes you as someone going to supply the goals that Bolton need.

It was a regret for them not to have brought in another striker who can guarantee goals, which albeit is a struggle in January.

While they brought in a number of midfielders to help plug some gaps, there still appears to be question marks over the lack of creativity they have going forward.

This could be a symptom of the coaching style they currently have but bringing in someone with more of a spark through the middle would have been massive.
