Bristol City will be heading into this weekend's clash with Hull City full of confidence, after a hugely impressive 2-1 win over Derby County on Tuesday night.

The Robins picked up their first win of the season against QPR at Ashton Gate last weekend, and Lee Johnson's side then made it two wins in the matter of days against the Rams after a dominant display.

There was a chance for Han-Noah Massengo to make an impact upon his first league start for the Robins, and alongside Josh Brownhill in midfield, the pair helped make it a successful night for the visitors.

They were made to sweat late on when Jack Marriott came off the bench and curled an unstoppable effort into the top corner with five minutes left to play, but goals from Andreas Weimann and Brownhill in the first half were enough to secure the win.

Weimann is no stranger to the Pride Park faithful having made over 80 appearances for the Rams during a three-year stay at Pride Park, finding the net just nine times in all competitions.

But the Austrian gave Rams fans a timely reminder of what they were missing on the night - guile, work-rate and movement alongside another impressive forward in Benik Afobe.

Here, we take a look at Weimann's return to the East Midlands in further detail, as City maintained their impressive start to proceedings in the Championship.

Johnson, as he did against QPR, deployed a 3-4-1-2 formation on Tuesday night, playing Kasey Palmer in behind Afobe and Weimann - the midfielder always looking to play balls in behind all night.

Weimann and Afobe both ran the channels really well, and that's how both goals came for Johnson's side, Weimann showing his clever attacking instincts for both strikes.

The first came after he came in from the right and wriggled his way into the box. The ball was cleared only as far as Palmer, whose deflected shot then found Weimann again - the 28-year-old could not miss from 10 yards out.

Weimann also played an influential role in the second goal too, Jack Hunt dispossessing Scott Malone in his own half, putting in a wicked low delivery which the forward expertly dummied, leaving the ball for Brownhill who finished emphatically.

Throughout the night, Weimann pulled off only two shots, one of those being on target with the goal, as well as having five touches inside of the box.

But the attacker was everywhere on Tuesday night, especially when they were backs to the wall in the latter stages of the contest. Weimann dropped back into midfield, giving them more men going backward, but offering them the potential to counter attack as Derby threw men forward.

The 28-year-old made five interceptions, and also accrued a pass success rate of 77% from 17 successful passes too.

Afobe was signed by Johnson in the summer to provide competition for Famara Diedhiou, who came on as a late substitute on the night. But, if Weimann continues to play how he did on Tuesday night, then there should also be a permanent place for him up top alongside one of the other pair.
