5 things we’ve learnt from Reading FC’s season so far

Published

on

Reading FC have a had an average season in the Championship this year and it looks like they are to settle for a mid-table finish once again.

Steve Clarke was their manager in the first half of a season where they picked up some good results and due to the excellent form of striker Nick Blackman, they found themselves in promotion contention.

In the middle of October they sat second in the table behind Brighton after an excellent 2-0 win over promotion contenders Middlesbrough.

But they went off the boil and only won two games in the rest of 2015 resulting in the sacking of Steve Clarke, and after short period of Martin Kuhl’s management they brought in ex-manager Brian McDermott.

There results have picked up this year with their defence looking solid and they are scoring goals freely now, without relying on Blackman who left for Derby in the January transfer window. T

hey find themselves having won three on the bounce in all competitions and sit 12th, 12 points off the playoffs which may be a bridge too far so they may have to focus their play-off push on next season instead.

They reached the semi finals of the FA Cup last year before a gut wrenching defeat to Arsenal and this cup run has been replicated, they face Crystal Palace at home in the quarter finals for a place at Wembley and that may be the focus of there season now.
