Paul Clement will be hoping to emulate Jaap Stam's first season season in charge.

Last season was hugely disappointing season for Royals fans because it was in complete contrast to the season before when they lost in the Championship Play-Off Final.

Stam was unable to build on his initial success, and he ended up losing his job as Reading edged closer to the relegation places.

Clement was his replacement but his tenure hasn't been full of excitement so far even though he did guide them away from the bottom three.

This squad still has a heavy influence from his predecessor, so he will need to make personnel changes in order to make his mark.

Here are five strikers he should be considering as potential transfer targets...

Baldock only featured twice in the league for Brighton last season as he lost his place in the team after the switch up from the Championship to the Premier League. In contrast, he was involved in 31 league matches during the promotion-winning campaign and scored 10 times.

His experience in high pressure situations could be useful in a side that is probably to grind out results next season under Clement. He is also likely to be cheap due to being low down the pecking order, so he could be brought in as an experienced option for when the team is struggling and needs a focal point to exert themselves on the match.

Bonatini is another potential bargain because he played for Wolves on loan last season, but they appear to not want to make his move permanent due to his poor second half of the season. Therefore, Reading could try and make a move for him because he showed signs of promise.

He scored 12 goals with the last one coming in December, which shows how prolific he was as well as assisting five up to that point. However, he contributed little to the team after that with Benik Afobe taking his place. Making that early season form consistent for an entire season could make him a real threat and it's worth the risk to try and get him on loan next season

Bradshaw could be a cheap option to bring in due to being relegated with Barnsley. He formed a good understanding with Oliver McBurnie which saw him score nine goals in the league.

One of his main strengths is holding on to the ball which is useful in a side that is likely to have a defensive approach and play on the counter because he can act as the central outlet with a striker making movement off him or wingers running into the channels. He would be an excellent fit for a cheap price in this side.

Rhodes hasn't lived up to expectations and could even be labelled a flop at Sheffield Wednesday. Last season was an improvement because he scored five league goals in 1595 league minutes. However, the Owls could be convinced to sell him with the right offer due to the amount of attacking options they have.

His poor form means his value has decreased, but there is still a talented striker there who wreaked havoc for Huddersfield and Blackburn in this division. He could become the main goalscorer for the team and help them up the table back towards the play-offs. They have a big points tally to make up, but a prolific forward would help significantly.

Winnall is another striker at Sheffield Wednesday that could leave this summer, although he spent the season on loan at Derby. A major injury ruled him out for a large part of the season and took away from his early season form because he scored six goals in 633 minutes.

Derby's current managerial situation gives the Royals an opportunity because they could try and sneak in to sign him permanently while the Rams are paralysed at making decisions due to the search for a new manager. Winnall has an all-round threat, so he can moulded into whatever type of striker Reading need.
