It's all change at Hillsborough right now.

After Sheffield Wednesday were docked 12 points for breaching spending it was always expected that this term would be tough, but few predicted how much of an uphill battle it would actually be.

The Owls have picked up three wins and three draws from 11 matches so far  - a tally which hasn't been enough to get their heads above water in the battle to avoid relegation.

Escaping the drop is the ultimate aim so far this term, but with results not going their way it seems that Dejphon Chansiri is feeling a bit anxious.

As a result the decision was made to dismiss manager Garry Monk from his role at the club.

Time will tell whether that was the correct call to make, but for now the focus is on finding the right man to take the club forward.

But who will take charge of the Owls? Let's take a look at the contenders.

Tony Pulis

The Welsh manager is one of the most experienced managers in the EFL.

Renowned for his no-nonsense, direct style of player Pulis is not a man who will get supporters hot under the collar - but he will get some positive results.

His time with West Brom, Stoke City and Middlesbrough shows exactly what fans would expect from the 62-year-old, and perhaps that no-thrills style of play is just what is needed to get the job done.

Paul Cook

Arguably one of the most sought-after managers in the EFL.

After a successful time with Portsmouth the 53-year-old really gathered the plaudits as manager of Wigan Athletic as he galvanised the group during a particularly troubling time.

Relegated only as a result of a points deduction, the job done with the Latics last term shows exactly why he could be the perfect man to guide Sheffield Wednesday through this period.

Nigel Pearson

If you need someone to rally the troops then the 57-year-old could be the man.

Pearson has managed Leicester City, Derby County and Watford in recent years and has done an excellent job as someone to come in and rattle the cages of the players.

If Chansiri is after a reaction then Pearson could be the ideal candidate, while his affinity for the club would also ensure that his heart was truly in the fight.

Eddie Howe

A slightly more ambitious option.

Howe is a manager who has enjoyed remarkable success of late during his lengthy tenure as manager of Bournemouth.

While they suffered relegation last term, Howe's stock is still incredibly high as he seeks his next role in the game.

There's no doubt that the 42-year-old would bring a free-flowing brand of football, but it remains to be seen whether this would be the right fit for both man and club.

Ryan Lowe

This could be an exciting option.

Ryan Lowe might not be as big a name as the others on the list but his recent record is arguably the most impressive.

After thriving in difficult circumstances with Bury, Lowe also secured promotion from League Two with current club Plymouth Argyle last season.

It's only a matter of time before he makes the move to the Championship and Sheffield Wednesday could do a lot worse than appointing the Liverpool-born boss.
