For Sheffield United fans, this season has been one to forget, with many already counting down the fixtures until it is over and a summer of rebuilding can begin.

Languishing in mid table and with nothing but an outside chance of making the play-off positions, the Blades squad should really be taking a long hard look at themselves when the season ends.

With this in mind, it brings to mind those players who have particularly contributed very little and not pulled their weight at Bramall Lane when they should be doing more.

The Blades squad had over 40 players in at the start of the season, the most in League One, and many of these players have simply not done what was expected of them.

Conor Sammon

Probably the easiest place to start is with on loan Derby County front man Sammon, whose performances have been poor to say the least.

Much was expected when he made the move in the summer, with many expecting League One to be his level after inconsistent years in the Championship before him.

However, he has proved just why he has never been a prolific striker, and has struggled to hit the back of net, indeed only finding it on six occasions all season in all competitions.

It would be a huge surprise to see the club make a permanent move for Sammon in the summer after what has been a disaster of a season.

Paul Coutts

Despite a good couple of months and one or two decent performances, Coutts has never looked bothered in a United shirt.

This season has been no different to when he first arrived last year, with many criticising his attitude towards the game, and his overall commitment to the team's cause. He has yet to even score for United, and offers very little in terms of creativity.

When Coutts signed, many fans thought they were getting a player who could well be the answer to the creative problems in the midfield. What they actually got was just another prima-donna who looks set to be on his way when the summer window comes round, with Rangers a muted destination.

Martyn Woolford

When Woolford signed in the summer, lots of fans were impressed at landing him on a free, with his Championship experience and knack of always playing well against United.

Woolford though has been poor to say the least.

27 appearances have yielded only one single goal all season, and manager Nigel Adkins appears to have ran out of patience with him too.

He seems a shadow of the player he once was, and will be another player within the Blades ranks who will surely be moved on in the summer.

Jose Baxter

Baxter has to be included on this list just for the fact he has let the club down so many times.

After failing a drugs test last year and being given a lenient sentence, the club, and manager Adkins, backed Baxter to get past it and produce on the field, which he did, for a while.

However, once again during this season, Baxter tested positive for recreational drugs and has been out of the team all together ever since. He has let his team mates and his club down with his behaviour, and a verdict on his suspension from the game is expected shortly.

It is a real shame for the former Everton man, who has undoubted ability, but clearly possesses troubles off the field which look like sending his career into free fall.

Dean Hammond

Hammond seems to make many polls and lists when it comes to anything negative about United this season, and it is with good reason too.

Since arriving from Leicester, Hammond has done nothing but seemingly infuriate fans with his lacklustre performances and lack of ability on the ball.

Manager Adkins seems to sing his praises, but this is baffling to many who go to Bramall Lane regularly, who see Hammond as just another player running around in the middle of the park offering very little.

Adkins seems to have targeted Hammond for a permanent move in the summer. If this does happen, expect many eyebrows to be raised from fans.
