Sheffield United are a club with a big reputation and are still regarded as one of the biggest clubs in Yorkshire despite being in League One.

The Yorkshire side have produced some inspiring players over the years, with many representing their nationalities and bringing glory to Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United’s downfall started in the 2008-2009 season as they reached the Championship pla- off finals at Wembley and lost 1-0 to Burnley.

The following season they were relegated from the Championship and have featured in the League One play-offs three times out of the last four seasons.

The Blades have bottled it under the pressure of the play-offs and have been unable to live up to their club stature.

You could describe the club from the famous saying as “big fish in a small pond”, and they could do with these FIVE legends right now….

Phil Jagielka

The England first choice centre back came through the youth ranks at Bramall Lane and made his debut against Swindon Town in the 1999-2000 season.

He established himself in the first team in the 2002-2003 season and started to attract the attention of high profile clubs.

Jagielka was recognised as one of United’s key players, he played as the team captain in Chris Morgan’s absence in 2006.

Jagielka played in every minute of every match from 2004-2006 and when Sheffield United were relegated from the Premier League, he was linked with moves away from his fine performances.

The 33-year-old has consistently grown as a player and is a real fan favourite with Everton and has represented England 38 times..

Stephen Quinn

Quinn graduated from the Sheffield United academy, and he made his first team debut for the Blades in a League Cup win at Shrewsbury Town on 20 September 2005.

He made 206 appearances for the club scoring 20 goals.

The attacking midfielder was one of the hot prospects at the club after he won the young player of the year in their Premier League campaign.

Chris Morgan

Morgan made 247 appearances for United and was known as the no nonsense defender.

He signed for Sheffield United in 2003 for a free transfer. Morgan was made captain at the start of the 2004–05 season and in the 2005–06 season, he captained the Blades to promotion to the Premier League, with the club returning to the top flight after a 12-year absence.

The Blades' stay in the top flight lasted just one season as they were relegated back to the Championship in controversial circumstances.

The Sheffield United fans loved Morgan’s physicality and his rough style play. However, his career ended damply after he accidentally elbowed Barnsley striker Iain Hume in the head after an aerial challenge, which left the Barnsley forward with a fractured skull.

Nick Montgomery

Montgomery came through the youth ranks at Sheffield United and represented the Red and White shirt 397 times, in a twelve-year spell.

He was an integral part of their promotion season and was runner up to Phil Jagielka for the player of the year award.

Montgomery left the club in September 2012 and said that the football club was “a huge part of him and a club that he has been honored to shed blood, sweat and tears for.”

Paddy Kenny

Paddy was always a great goalkeeper for the Blades and his career was tarnished, after he was banned from football for nine months in 2010 for testing positive for drugs.

He spent much of his career at Bramall Lane and enjoyed many successes while at the club.

He was voted United's Player of the Season in 2002–03 and United reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and League Cup, where they were beaten by Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.

Neil Warnock, who is currently the interim manager at QPR described the player as “one of the best signings he has ever made.”
