Sheffield Wednesday got back to winning ways on Friday evening as they beat QPR 2-1 at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium to earn a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

It was an important response from Garry Monk's men after they were beaten 5-0 by Blackburn Rovers last weekend.

In truth, the game lacked much real quality in the final third for the first hour or so, with Morgan Fox's 43rd-minute goal giving the Owls the lead.

There was a late flurry of action as QPR threw attacking players on to try and salvage the result, which led to both sides grabbing a goal in injury time.

Wednesday opted to start with both Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall up top on Friday evening but were unable to create many clear chances against the side with the second-worst defensive record in the Championship.

Making his 13 appearance of the season, Rhodes drew another blank. But how bad was his performance?

We put a spotlight on his display to investigate just that.

With top scorer Steven Fletcher sidelined due to injury, Friday's game represented an opportunity for Rhodes to stake his claim for some more regular first-team minutes.

The 29-year-old started up front alongside Winnall at the KPF, with Monk opting to line his side up in a 4-4-2 from the off.

The striker played 78 minutes before he was replaced with Atdhe Nuhiu but it was a far from memorable performance.

Rhodes, whose only goals this season are a first-half hat-trick against Nottingham Forest, was unable to contribute to any goals for the Owls–not scoring or providing an assist.

The forward took two touches in the opposition box but did not register a single shot or provide a shot assist to a teammate.

In total, he received just five passes and completed eight–only one of which was in the final third.

He struggled to have much impact aerially either, with QPR centre-backs Toni Leistner and Conor Masterson keeping him relatively quiet in that department. He won just three of his 12 aerial duels–a success rate of just 25%.

It was reported yesterday that Wednesday have told Rhodes that he is excess to requirements and judging from his performance on Friday, that looks the right decision.

It seems the Owls' patience has run out and they will be hoping that they can shift him before the transfer window closes at the end of the week, with Blackburn Rovers reportedly interested.

It will be a shame for his last performance for Wednesday to be such a disappointing one but at this point, a fresh start seems the best idea for both parties.
