Leeds United relieved Steve Evans of his duties in the managerial hot seat at Elland Road, making it 6 managers now to have been given the boot by owner Massimo Cellino.

Evans lasted 7 months under Cellino, which in the grand scheme might seem very short, but under the Italian, is a fairly respectable amount of time given other managers records of late.

Evans follows Brian McDermott, David Hockaday, Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn, and Uwe Rosler in leaving the club since 2014.

It was harsh on Evans, who was seen by many to have done a decent job at Elland Road, and it once again throws the limelight back on the club in a negative way with Cellino having already been rejected by two candidates in Karl Robinson and Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke.

It has however emerged that Garry Monk is now the favourite for the post, and the former Swansea manager is rumoured to be the man Cellino wants to replace the outgoing Evans.

Monk may well be a good pick for Leeds, and here are FIVE reasons why Garry Monk would be perfect for Leeds United....

Style of football

Monk had his team at Swansea playing a really attractive and well drilled style of football, and it yielded success before the club ended his tenure when results were not quite what was wanted.

However it cannot be denied that they were a good outfit to watch, with slick passing, sharp movement, and a well drilled defence bringing positive outcomes for the team.

If Monk could manage to get Leeds playing a similar way, then things could well be on the up at Elland Road.

Premier League experience

Although he might have only had one job in the Premier League, Monk can still call on that experience of managing at the top level with top players and their ego's, something crucial to management.

At Leeds United, who remain a huge club, he is likely to encounter big names and big ego's all the same, and he will need all his managerial experience to manage it properly.

Cellino's ultimate aim is to get the club to the Premier League, and in Monk he might have a man who can do that, and keep them there.

He knows the lower leagues well

Monk was at Swansea for 10 years as a player, and he progressed through the leagues from League Two right up the Premier League with the club, so he has a broad idea of the quality through the divisions.

This could be vital as he looks to build his squad for next year if he takes charge, and knowing who is the best and most valuable talent available lower down the football pyramid could be crucial.

Monk knows what it takes to get promotion from the lower divisions, something which Cellino will see as a vital factor in his appointment.

Young and fresh ideas

At 37, Monk is still extremely young in terms of management, but this can be an advantage as we have seen across numerous clubs both domestically and in Europe.

From Lee Johnson at Bristol City to Luis Enrique at the top of the pile with Barcelona, being a young fresh and vibrant manager can work wonders.

Leeds could profit from this outlook, and with a young squad themselves, the players might react well to someone coming in who knows more about the modern game and modern way of life in general.

Premier League connections

Monk has made many friends in the right places and came away from the Premier League with an enhanced reputation following his tenure at Swansea.

This could prove crucial as he moves forward in his managerial career, allowing him to nip in and pick up good quality young players from Premier League teams, as well as going back to Swansea and even picking up some of his most trusted players.

Monk will no doubt look to utilise these connections should he take the Leeds role, and it would be interesting to see if he would be able to attract any of these Premier League names to Yorkshire.
