Since joining the West Yorkshire club in early November, David Wagner has been a revelation and has revitalised the club.

As a relatively unknown entity to many in the footballing world, he was regarded as a risky appointment which could be make or break for the club.

However, it's safe to say that he has been anything but a failure as he has turned around the fortunes of a club in a short space of three months with the club rising up the table.

David Wagner has shown the untapped potential of the side with the drastic improvement of both performances and results, and what makes this feat impressive is that Wagner has done without spending any money, he has made some acquisitions using the loan market in the January window but it's still Chris Powell's team.

This article gives FIVE reasons why David Wagner has been a success so far and why some proclaim that 'he's better than Klopp'...............

Change of ways

It didn't take long after Wagner's arrival to see the changes, which had been sorely needed at the club that was stagnating rather than consolidating.

Wagner's mantra was based on working harder and outrunning and outplaying the opposition. It was a refreshing mentality to that of a club that lacked an identity on the field.

Although Wagner didn't have a pre-season to work on the fitness of the side, there were considerable improvements in how the team was performing as soon as he came in, they were simply working harder and wanted it more.

He changed the club's ethos with double training sessions and staying in a hotel room the night before a match being some of the changes he made. Wagner has given the club a continental feel, one not too different to that of a Bundesliga club and it appeared to have the desired effect.

There were initially some teething problems as Huddersfield struggled to close out games as they tired in the final third of games and this lead to errors and goals conceded goals. However the club is now seeing the benefit of these changes and with Wagner's never say die attitude, the club is one of highest scorers in the entire division in the final 15 minutes of games.

Play Style

Another reason for Wagner's popularity and success is the way that Huddersfield are playing.

Coming from Borussia Dortmund, there was some expectancy after Wagner made comments that he strived to deliver a similar style of football to that of Jurgen Klopp but Wagner's footballing philosophy is clear for anyone to see when they watch Huddersfield play.

A number of different phrases have been used to describe it such as 'Gegenpressing' or 'reactive pressure'. What it has provided is a full-throttle approach, hunting in packs for the ball when out of possession and consistently putting the opposition under pressure.

The 4-2-3-1 formation that Wagner implements have made Huddersfield one of the most attractive attacking footballing teams to watch. Emphasis is placed on fluid movement, fast transitions and interplay that allows Huddersfield to break teams down with ease.

Wagner has started to adapt the playing style to incorporate direct passing against teams that press high. There are also opportunities to strike on the counter with the attacking quartet being capable of launching swift attacks against tiring legs.

The playing style is one of confidence and Huddersfield now has a distinct playing style on the pitch for Huddersfield fans to enjoy.

Managerial Style

David Wagner is as passionate and enthusiastic about the game than anyone in world football and that can be seen on the touchline. The energy that he wishes his team to play with is reflective of his personality.

Wagner can be both reactive and more significantly proactive. These substitutions are reflective of that and have an effect on the game.

What's most significant about his managerial side is that he uses the entirety of his squad which is a refreshing approach compared to some managers, that are reliant on a small number of players.

The final impressive attribute of his managerial style is that he has a clear footballing philosophy that Huddersfield's players follow and those who listen to him has improved tenfold.

Players like Nahki Wells and Joe Lolley have come into their own under Wagner and any signings he makes will also improve under him.

Mentality

One word that I'd use to describe Wagner's mentality is refreshing.

He is a young manager making his way at his first senior club and because of that, he is fearless and is determined to attempt to win every match possible.

In comparison to previous Huddersfield managers, this positive winning mentality has been absent.Wagner has yet to mention how Huddersfield can't compete financially as his focus is on the pitch.

I enjoy Wagner's inward focus, that no matter whom the opposition is, Huddersfield will look to play their own way and perform to the best of their ability.

This mentality will prove successful for Huddersfield as the emphasis has shifted from how they will deal with the opposition to how the opposition will deal with them.

Atmosphere

Not all of the credit should go to Wagner for this factor but it has contributed to his success and he has provided the club with a resurgence of optimism and a reason to cheer.

The decision by the club to open the south stand for home fans has been a revelation in improving the atmosphere.

There seems to be a buzz around the ground that's been missing and a growing optimism that Huddersfield is on an upwards trajectory.

The use of drums and flags particularly in the south stand and also the atmosphere with away supporters have provided a different more enjoyable atmosphere than in previous seasons.

The core supporters can enjoy good football and an excellent atmosphere to match, and it could be a spiral of success if the atmosphere draws more fans through the gate and that will improve the atmosphere even more so.
