Chris Martin is one of the Championship's most prolific goalscorers and is the focal point of the current Derby team currently aiming for promotion.

He is a consistent 20 goal a season man and has been capped by Scotland and has been long tipped with a move to the Premier League, but Derby fans feel he will go up with them anyway.

He had a miserable tenure with Norwich and had a disappointing goalscoring record, and some bad loan spells so they released him on a free.

Even at Derby, he has slowly matured into a 20 goal-a-season striker, and he scored 18 goals last season despite being injured for a number of months.

It is with this recent resurgence he has earned a number of international caps for Scotland, and scored his first goal for them against Gibraltar.

Like Rhodes, it seems strange that a Premier League club has not snapped him up, as most struggling Premier League clubs would kill for a 20 goal-a-season man with the experience Martin has.

Here are FIVE reasons why Chris Martin should be a Premier League player......

Prolific

It has taken seasons of maturity and longevity, but Martin has realised his potential in the last couple of seasons.

He will undoubtedly be one of the top scorers in the Championship this season due to the excellent service around him, as they purchased a number of creative players in the summer transfer window.

Struggling Premier League clubs need established strikers like him so he is indeed an attractive proposition.

Natural finisher

Martin's finishing ability has been praised by many, and it has come on a long way since his career at Norwich.

He is the type of player that can turn half a chance into a goal and is good in the air, as well as an excellent right foot.

Struggling Premier League clubs need a clinical striker that can tuck away any chance they do create, and Martin may be the perfect man for this.

Strength

Martin is quite stocky and an imposing figure to mark in the box and difficult to defend from in set pieces.

This strength compensates for his lack of pace, and he can muscle defenders out of the way when running against them, and this strength has also made him an imposing figure in the air with renowned heading ability.

Experience

The 27-year-old has played in every English League mainly during his time at Norwich, where he played a lot of League One games and a couple of Championship and Premier League games.

Of course at Derby, he has stacked up a lot of experience at Championship level, and he also has international experience, now making him a player with experience of many levels of football and knowledge of the style of play.

Consistency

martin345

He has been consistent for Derby over the last two seasons and is their focal point - their major downturn in form last season corresponded with his injury, and Derby lack good enough replacements for him if he does get injured.

Martin also has a good all round game and is a team player, providing passes and assists for his teammates, as well as being able to mobilise.
