Swindon Town have recently confirmed that Richie Wellens has left the club to take charge of League Two side Salford City.

Wellens had been in charge of the Robins since 2018, and guided the club to the League Two title after club's in the fourth-tier agreed to curtail the 2019/20 campaign on a PPG (points per game) basis.

Swindon are currently sat 20th in the League One table, and will be hoping they can find a replacement for Wellens at the earliest of opportunities.

The Robins were beaten 4-2 by Plymouth Argyle in their most recent match in midweek, and the club's supporters will be eager to see their next manager take them forward in the right direction.

We take a look at FIVE realistic Richie Wellens replacements that Swindon Town must consider.

Hunt oversaw Swindon Town's defeat to Plymouth in midweek, and is likely to be one of the favourites to take charge at the County Ground.

Hunt has revealed in a recent interview that he hasn't given much thought to being appointed on a permanent basis, having worked as a coach whilst Wellens was in charge of the Robins.

"I haven’t had much time to process it to be honest, but [taking over] is something I’ve got to have a serious think about."

Hunt has played for a number of clubs in the EFL during his playing career, and will be fondly remembered by Reading FC supporters for his contribution in their promotion-winning season back in the 2011/12 campaign.

Cowley is another name that is likely to be in the frame for most vacancies that will be available in League One.

He has been out of work since being dismissed as Huddersfield Town's manager, but does have an impressive CV after a number of successful years whilst with Lincoln City.

He'd be somewhat of a coup for Swindon Town, but there is no harm in trying to get him appointed as their new manager.

Cotterill has been out of work since his time with Birmingham City came to an end back in 2018.

But the 56-year-old does have an impressive CV, having managed the likes of Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, as well as a number of other teams in the EFL.

His experience could come in handy for a Swindon Town side that are struggling in League One at this moment in time.

Heckingbottom is a manager that will feel as though he has unfinished business in English football, after previously managing Leeds United.

His most recent job was with Scottish side Hibernian, where he was dismissed from his role in charge in November, after a defeat to Celtic in the League Cup Semi-Final.

Heckingbottom had an impressive record with Barnsley before his spell with Leeds United though, and will surely be tempted by a route back into management with the Robins.

Tisdale is a vastly experienced manager in the EFL, but has been out of work since last year, after being relieved of his duties by MK Dons.

He has also managed the likes of Exeter City in the past, and could prove to be a solid appointment by Swindon Town if they were to enter talks with the 47-year-old.
