League One side Bristol Rovers parted company with Ben Garner following a 4-1 home defeat to Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon.

Garner was appointed by Rovers in 2019 following Graham Coughlan's departure to Mansfield Town, and won six out of 31 games in charge of the Gas.

Rovers have only picked up three wins from 11 league games this season, though, and currently sit 18th in League One after a disappointing start to the season.

Following a 4-1 defeat at home to Fleetwood at the weekend, Garner was relieved of his duties by the club.

The Gas will now look to appoint a new manager. With a decent squad on the books, the right appointment could see them climb up the table and mount a promotion push.

Here, we take a look at five realistic replacements for Garner...

Cowley is on the lookout for a new job after being let go by Huddersfield at the end of last season.

He thrived at Lincoln City and worked wonders with the Imps, and a return to League One with an ambitious club like Rovers could be of interest to him.

Tisdale is an experienced manager who was most recently at MK Dons.

He guided the club to promotion from League Two in 2018/19, but was sacked last season after a spell start to the League One campaign.

He clearly enjoys a project having been at Exeter for so many years, and he could get the best out of this group of playes.

Could Rovers poach one of League Two's best managers?

Flynn's Newport currently sit top of League Two after winning eight of their first 11 league games, and has done an excellent job under a tight budget at Rodney Parade.

It would be a coup to lure him away, but Rovers are a big club with a lot of ambition.

Alexander was sacked by Salford despite the club sitting in the League One play-off places last month.

The 49-year-old guided Salford out of the National League, albeit with a huge budget, but he is a good manager who has done a good job with Scunthorpe in League One in the past.

This may be one that would divide fans, but Coughlan may still have unfinished business at the Memorial Stadium.

Coughlan had Rovers fighting at the right end of the League One table last season, before leaving to go to Mansfield.

His time at the One Call Stadium was poor, though, and failed to get the Stags firing despite having time to build his own squad.

He knows a fair amount of players on Rovers' books and could get them back to their best.
