Ipswich are enduring a fairly difficult start to the Championship this season, after falling at the play-off stage last season to arch rivals Norwich.

They had a steady start to the season but have failed to reproduce their home form of last season, but have recently improved and were unbeaten in six until their 2-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough on Friday.

Ipswich lost star player Tyrone Mings to Premier League Bournemouth in the summer and the defence has suffered because of it, conceding 27 goals with centre backs Berra and Smith not as imperious as last season.

Up front they have been potent despite the poor form of Daryl Murphy who was the Championship's top scorer last season, but his recent return to form accompanied by contributions of fellow front men Freddie Sears and Brett Pitman has seen them bag 12 goals in four games, until Middlesbrough held them on Friday.

Maitland Niles and Cole Skuse have been excellent this season as well, and with Ipswich now just one point outside the play-offs they will be on the lookout in January for the chance to bolster attack and defence.

Here are FIVE strikers they could sign from Premier League clubs in January......

Frazier Campbell

The striker is majorly out of favour at Selhurst Park and is now behind numerous strikers in the pecking order, just like Gayle and Wickham.

Also Palace preferring to operate with just one striker with Bolasie and Zaha operating either side, limits the chances Campbell can hope to get, even if he does impress when he plays.

The player was prolific for Cardiff in the Championship a few seasons back, bagging some vital goals as they got promotion and has shown capability at this level.

With Palace keen to offload he shouldn't cost too much for the usual economically sound Ipswich.

Peter Crouch

The legendary beanpole striker has found getting game time at new look Stoke this season tough.

Rafts of exciting foreign talent have transformed Stoke into a vibrant flowing team and players like Crouch don't fit into the system.

But he is a player of incredible goalscoring pedigree and a will want to play football, and would certainly be able to do a job for Ipswich at this level, with his excellent aerial ability.

Rickie Lambert

Rickie Lambert

Another prominent goalscorer going to waste on the bench at a Premier League club.

Lambert moved to West Brom after failing to get games at Liverpool but has suffered a similar fate.

He is behind Rondon and Berahino in the pecking order despite the poor form of the latter, he may seek a move away in January to get some game time.

He was crucial when Southampton got promotion a few seasons ago and is very prolific at this level.

Yann Kermorgant

The striker was important in Bournemouth's promotion winning campaign last year, but has been limited to cameos off the bench this season.

He is a top striker at this level with good records in this division for both Bournemouth and Charlton.

He linked up well with Wilson last season but this season Stanislas and Murray are favoured above him, and a player of his quality needs first-team football.

Libor Kozak

The Villa man was blighted with a horrific leg break upon his arrival, which has inhibited his first team chances.

He has been in good form recently for the U21 side at Villa and is ready to be eased back into first team football, but instead of being put into the Premier League, he should be eased back into the groove at a Championship side like Ipswich.
