It ended up being a disappointing season for Wolves, as they finished down in 14th place after coming within a few goals of finishing 6th last term.

Kenny Jackett lost Benik Afobe during the season, and his goals were missed massively as the club ultimately fell away from being able to make any sort of promotion challenge, having to make do with the mid-table finish.

Fall outs with as few players towards the end of the campaign, including star midfielder Kevin McDonald, left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth for some fans as the season closed, and they will be hoping these issues are rectified ready for next term.

Wolves will need to strengthen as they look to do better next time round, and they may well look to the Premier League to identify a few targets who can help them build towards success.

With this in mind, here are FIVE Premier League players Wolves should sign to mount a promotion bid......

Matty James

With concerns over Kevin McDonald and his future, Wolves may well look to add a central midfielder to the squad, and someone like James would be an excellent addition.

The Leicester man won the Premier League this season, and crucially also has experience of winning the Championship. He found chances limited this term, and with the Foxes likely to strengthen further, then it may be that James looks to move on.

He would fit in ideally at Molineux, and would be just the sort of signing which would give fans some hope that they are looking at bringing in quality for next season.

Patrick Bamford

When Benik Afobe left, it was always going to be difficult to replace the goals, but someone like Patrick Bamford could well be that man.

Bamford has the experience scoring goals in the league for both Boro and Derby, and is proven at this level, despite things not working out for him in the Premier League as yet.

If Wolves could use some of the funds gathered from the Afobe sale, then they might well be best served investing them in Bamford.

Sheyi Ojo

The Liverpool winger enjoyed a loan spell with the club earlier in the season, and showed enough to suggest he has the potential to be a good player.

He has been involved with and started numerous games for Liverpool since his return, and Jurgen Klopp clearly rates the pacey wide man.

If Wolves could manage to get Ojo back to the club, many fans I am sure would be happy, and he would offer something exciting up and down the wings, especially with the long term injury to Jordan Graham.

Ben Chilwell

Another Leicester man, but young Chilwell is one of the brightest prospects in the game at the moment, despite a lack of game time for him at the King Power.

Chilwell is capable of playing in a few positions both in midfield and across the back four, something which can be crucial during a long Championship campaign.

A loan spell might be ideal for Chilwell next term, and he is someone who many clubs will be monitoring. He would be a real coup if they could pull it off.

Dwight Gayle

The Crystal Palace man always seems to have a big part to play at some point in the season, and so it proved last week when his double downed Stoke.

But, chances have been limited for the former Peterborough man, and he was long touted for a move during January.

If Wolves are serious about pushing on next season, they should take a look at Gayle and put in a serious bid for the speedy front man. He would most definitely score goals in the Championship, and it could be that this summer he finally moves away from Selhurst Park.
