Ipswich Town have endured an unusual season.

Strong in some games but inconsistent in a fair share of their others. The lack of consistency was summed up against a relegated Charlton side only a few games ago.

Mick McCarthy has expressed his frustration that the Tractor Boys weren't able to finish amongst the top six in the division. He noted that his side were making it extremely difficult for themselves.

The unfortunate league standings left Town in eighth, a point adrift of seventh placed Cardiff and eight points clear of sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday, who enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over Cardiff to cement their place in this year's play-offs.

To become a force in the division and to make the strides that clubs like Sheffield Wednesday have done this year, the Tractor Boys need to invest, not heavily, but shrewdly and these certain players could lift the squad to Premier League status.

FLW writer Conor McGilligan has identified FIVE Premier League players Ipswich should look to sign in the summer...

Eunan O'Kane

Eunan O'Kane

After AFC Bournemouth signed him in 2012, O'Kane played 37 games as they were promoted from League One in his first season, and then he played 37 games in the Championship the next year.

Last year however he only featured 11 times as Bournemouth won the league and secured their first promotion to the Premier League.

However the talent on show is ideal for the Championship, his hard working ethic would fit perfectly into a Mick McCarthy side and would come at a fraction of a price most individuals at his level cost.

He has been named in O'Neill's Ireland squad for the European Championships, he has undeniable quality and just needs a chance at a higher level. Ipswich would be perfect.

Adlene Guedioura

Adlene Guedioura

After being signed from Palace by Watford the Algerian hasn't really featured consistently in the squad, even after his stunning strike against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

After a successful spell with Nottingham Forest in the Championship, Guedioura set his sights higher as he moved to a Palace squad.

Since his spell at Forest where he scored 5 goals in 40 appearances with numerous assists, the Algerian really hasn't found his feet.

His technical ability is superb, and with an Ipswich side sometimes to reliant on specific players to create chances, Guedioura would relish this and become the creative spark the club need to reach that top 6.

Jordon Mutch

Mutch

Mutch was superb for Cardiff in the Championship, he added goals to his game which is encapsulated by his superb work ethic and technical ability.

He is a box-to-box midfielder who knows what it takes to get out of the division.

His high level of motivation and drive throughout a match gets his team through and once again he would fit perfectly into a well drilled, well oiled McCarthy team as he would work offensively and defensively if given the right direction.

The price for Mutch could be mere in comparison to what he could do for the Tractor Boys.

Lewis Grabban

grabbann

His career from Rotherham onwards has been staggering statistic wise.

His return to Bournemouth hasn't been prolific, but in the Championship he notched up nearly 50 goals in 110 matches.

His ability in the opposition box is quality, he brings an element of surprise and unpredictability.

Grabban would be a worthy acquisition and has proved he can do it in the Championship, something that is essential when going for the top 6 spots.

Matt Jarvis

Matt Jarvis

A forgotten winger, but a quality one. Jarvis was signed from West Ham for Norwich and was direct, pacey and lethal.

After not playing for a noticeable period, it could be a gamble putting a transfer on Jarvis, but it could be a worthy one.

His abilities would give Championship defences nightmares.

His left and right foot could put him on either wing as he is an asset with both, his low centre of gravity makes it difficult for defences to tackle him and his end product has always been superb.

Jarvis would be a gamble, but for me, the right coaching could make the 29-year-old a very dangerous product in The Championship once again.
