Carlos Carvalhal can be satisfied with his team's recent revival in the EFL Championship.

The Owls sit 9th in the table, just two points off the play-off places, following 7 wins, 4 draws, and 6 defeats.

However, before the season had begun, Wednesday looked a shoe-in for promotion, after coming agonisingly close to the ultimate prize last term, only to be cut short by Hull City at Wembley in the play-off final.

So for a team blessed with quality and talent all around, Carvalhal will be also somewhat disappointed with the Yorkshire side's progress thus far this term, having failed to pick up a win in 3 league games.

With the January transfer window looming, now is the time for Carvalhal to get rid of the deadwood, and bring in fresh, new faces who will galvanise a promotion push.

Therefore here, Football League World writer George Harbey identifies FIVE Premier League players that Sheffield Wednesday should look to bring in on loan in January....

Ashley Fletcher

The West Ham United forward attracted interest from many clubs in the summer, however failed to pursue the former Manchester United youngster's signature.

The 21-year old netted 6 times in 21 games for Paul Heckingbottom's Barnsley side last term, who eventually secured promotion to the Championship.

There's no doubt that the likes of Leeds and Bristol City, who went in for the striker in the summer, will approach the Hammers again, and Wednesday should be a club looking to bring him in as well...

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

The 19-year-old would be a fantastic asset for Carvalhal's men, with his versatility in midfield.

The winger, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, made 30 appearances for Ipswich Town last term, and made a positive impact at Portman Road under Mick McCarthy.

One thing that Wednesday are lacking is energy in the middle of the park as well as out wide, hence why the Arsenal youngster, who has made 2 appearances for the Gunners this season, should be on Wednesday's shortlist.

Jordan Rhodes

For a player of Jordan Rhodes' calibre and quality, it comes as a shock as to why the 26-year old is surplus to requirements at Middlesbrough.

The Scottish international has only made 2 appearances for Aitor Karanka's men this term, despite his form in the Championship over the past few years.

Rhodes has reached double figures for 4 successive seasons in the second tier, and has netted a staggering 185 times in 355 career appearances; Wednesday would be stupid not to enquire about the prolific centre forward...

Emerson Hyndman

The American international arrived at AFC Bournemouth in good stead, following a successful couple of years at Fulham.

However, since then, the 20-year old has made to make an appearance for Eddie Howe's men, and a loan move away from the South Coast could be beneficial for the midfielder.

The Owls need depth in midfield in order to withstand the duration of the harsh, gruelling Championship season, therefore Hyndman would be a shrewd acquisition.

Lewis Cook

The Football League Young Player of the Year from last season has been linked with a move back to Garry Monk's Leeds United, since arriving at AFC Bournemouth last year, however, Wednesday really should look to intercept their Yorkshire rivals.

The 19-year old is undoubtedly Championship quality, and thoroughly deserves his chance in the top flight, however only making just one appearance for the Cherries, has put a standstill on his development.

This loan move is a must for Wednesday.
