Bristol City have been one of the Championship's most exciting sides to watch this term, with the Robins having put themselves firmly amongst the contenders for promotion to the Premier League after picking up 35 points from a possible 66.

Lee Johnson will no doubt have been pleased with the manner in which his side have gone about their business so far this campaign, with the Ashton Gate outfit racking up an impressive 34 goals as we approach the midway stage of the season.

Goals have been evenly spread throughout the side, with Messrs Andreas Weimann and Famara Diedhiou netting seven and six goals respectively, whilst the likes of Josh Brownhill and Benik Afobe have also made significant goal scoring contributions for the Robins so far.

Unfortunately Afobe has been sidelined till the end of the current campaign with a serious knee injury that he picked up towards the start of the season, thus leaving Johnson's option up top greatly depleted.

The loss of the former Arsenal man has left the Bristol City boss with a void that needs filling and as such the club have been linked with bringing in another frontman for quite some time now, with the team lacking a prolific scorer of such that could gander them the extra points required to solidify their place in the play-off spots.

With the creative talents of the likes of Niclas Eliasson, Han Noah-Massengo and Kasey Palmer in the squad, the addition of a prolific goalscorer would be seen as greatly beneficial for the club, with all three players capable of laying on key passes.

Johnson is likely to have money available to him, with the club having overseen the high profile sales of Lloyd Kelly and Adam Webster during the summer, with both players moving on to pastures new with Bournemouth and Brighton respectively.

It remains to be seen what profile of striker that the former Oldham Athletic boss would be seeking, so to wet your appetite in the meantime, we have drawn up a list of FIVE potential targets who would greatly supplement Bristol City's frontline during the January window....

The 23-year-old Peterborough United forward has been in fine form for the Posh, netting 14 goals in his first 19 League One games.

The young striker would surely be open to testing himself at a higher level and a move to Ashton Gate would be favourable for the striker's development, with Johnson showing a high tendency to bring in young players in recent years.

A slightly controversial choice given the rivalry between the two sides, Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris could be a good option for the Robins, with the powerful forward having netted eight league goals for the Gas so far this term.

It would be a move that wouldn't be a standalone occurrence, with Matty Taylor having previously crossed the city divide back in 2017.

The towering Ivorian target man would add a great deal of power, pace and strength to the Bristol City frontline, with the striker having netted an impressive 11 league goals for Blackpool this term.

He could well provide a good alternative for Diedhiou, with the 27-year-old possessing strong presence in aerial situations.

The Liverpool youngster surely has to be on Lee Johnson's radar this coming January, with the young forward having found his game time largely limited at Anfield due to the presence of Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi.

A loan move to the Championship seems like the next logical step in the 19-year-old's career as he looks to make the grade for the UEFA Champions League holders.

Last but not least is Nicklas Bendtner, who is now available on a free transfer after being released by FC Copenhagen, with the 31-year-old having previously been with the Danish club since September.

The former Arsenal striker possesses a sound level of past experience, with the 31-year-old having turned out for the likes of Juventus and latterly Nottingham Forest in the Championship, meaning that he would represent a good low cost option for the Robins.
