Neil Lennon left Bolton Wanderers earlier today by ‘mutual consent’, and with only nine games of the season remaining, the new Bolton owners have acted quickly to move Lennon out.

It might have seemed a harsh decision to some, and the mutual consent tag can always be used as a cover up when the board have forced someone out.

However, times will need to move on at the Macron, and the hunt for a new manager will begin in earnest, with plenty of names no doubt being thrown into the hat.

It will be a key appointment, the first made by a new board, and they will need a man who can lead them in League One and get the club challenging for an immediate return to the Championship.

Here at FLW, we have taken a look at FIVE managers who Bolton may look to replace Lennon with.......

Phil Brown

The early bookies favourite is Phil Brown, and with close links to the club it is easy to see why.

Brown made over 250 appearances for the club as a player and spent a brief spell in charge as caretaker in the late 90s.

He is currently in charge of Southend, but the Trotters will be confident of getting their man.

Brown led Hull to the Premier League and saw Southend promoted from League Two in 2015, so has a good track record, tarnished somewhat by a short spell at Preston.

Chris Wilder

The current Northampton manager is a man in demand it seems, having led Northampton to the brink of promotion to League One this season.

The former Oxford and Sheffield United man though could well be tempted by the lure of Bolton and their bigger stadium and newer facilities.

It would be difficult for Bolton to get Wilder you would imagine, but he is definitely worth a shot and can be firmly considered in the running.

Kevin Nolan

The former Bolton favourite has to be in the running, despite little management experience.

He has a close bond with the club and its fans, and knows the place inside out.

Getting Nolan would be a bit of a risk, with his lack of experience counting against him. But then again, sometimes risks pay off, and it may well be that the club needs a young fresh manager to get the club up and running again.

Nolan would be a popular choice with fans no doubt, due to his exploits at the club during their successful Premier League tenure.

Uwe Rosler

A manager with experience of the Championship and League One with Brentford, Rosler could well fit the bill perfectly should they plump for him.

He has been out of work since leaving Leeds United, and will be more than keen to make a return to management.

Rosler could well be the answer at the Macron, and they could do a lot worse than to appoint the German, who certainly has plenty of fresh ideas.

Billy Davies

The fiery Scot this week gave an interview where he displayed his enthusiasm to get back into the management game, and the job at Bolton could well be perfect for him.

Davies has a good track record in the lower leagues, and is known for getting the best out of his players on a regular basis.

He would be a solid pair of hands to give the job too, and Bolton fans would be pleased with the appointment of an experienced campaigner no doubt.
