When it comes to selling members of the squad, Wolves have arguably done well in the past to make a decent amount of profit on players.

Most recently, the club made an £8m profit when they sold Benik Afobe to Bournemouth in January - just a year before, they'd spent £2m to bring the striker to Molineux from Arsenal.

Prior to that, the club made considerable profits on the likes of Matt Jarvis and Steven Fletcher who were sold to West Ham and Sunderland respectively, following relegation from the Premier League.

The Chief Executive at the club, Jez Moxey, has always ran a very tight ship but has undoubtedly made profits on many acquisitions in the past.

However, in spite of the profits, there are some players that Wolves fans would be keen to have back at the club.

The phrase "you don't know what you've got until it's gone" will to spring to mind for Wolves fans who will perhaps be thinking about that one player, who had that spark to make something happen and turn a game on it's head.

Football League World writer Alex Grove takes a look at the FIVE players who he thinks Wolves shouldn't have let slip through the net.......

Benik Afobe

As soon as the transfer window opened on January 2nd, it was a matter of not if, but when Benik Afobe would be snatched from the club.

The riches and the lure of the Premier League just cannot be ignored, so it was no surprise to see the England Under-21 star linked with a host of top flight sides.

He eventually secured his dream move to play against the best sides in England by finalising a move to Bournemouth.

With the club now supposedly having money in the transfer kitty, the fans were hoping that an out-and-out goalscorer would be brought into to replace the 23-year-old.

Instead, Joe Mason was brought in from Cardiff - an underwhelming signing which didn't exactly get Wolves fans buzzing with excitement.

Although Afobe wasn't as prolific this season as he was in the second half of last season when he banged in 13 goals in just 21 games, he was still Wolves' main man up front and a constant menace to Championship defences.

After his move many thought he would struggle to hack it in the top division but he has proved any critics wrong by scoring three in six for his new club.

Wolves in contrast have struggled without their star striker up front - managing only one win in six games as Kenny Jackett's men have fallen out of the play-off race.

Others have tried to fill the void - Polish striker Michal Zyro, got off to a flyer in his Wolves career by scoring three times in his first two games before being struck down with injury.

Joe Mason has scored twice for his new club but Kenny Jackett has been reluctant to start the new signing - opting for Bjorn Sigurdarson instead.

With top scorer James Henry now also out for the next few weeks, the goals look like they're about to dry up at Molineux and the fans might regret not having Afobe in the ranks to pop up with a goal or two to get some results, and boost confidence around a melancholy Molineux.

Bakary Sako

Wolves' success last season was built around the trio of Nouha Dicko, Benik Afobe and Bakary Sako who spearheaded the attack to claim 78 points.

Had the three of them been together all season then you would have said that Kenny Jackett's side would have almost certainly have made the play-offs, but unfortunately in the end it wasn't to be.

Sako was undoubtedly a special player for the club and he was adored by the fans for his trickery on the ball, and his skill to get round a defender or two.

As well as setting up goals for the striking duo of Dicko and Afobe, he was able to find the back of the net himself - scoring 15 times in 43 games across the course of the season, as he finished as the club's joint top goal-scorer.

At the end of last season, the Malian's contract wasn't renewed as he voiced a desire to play in the Premier League.

He was eventually snapped up by Crystal Palace and scored two goals in his first two games, including a second half winner at Stamford Bridge to give the Eagles victory over Chelsea.

However since then, he hasn't scored for Alan Pardew's side and hasn't featured in a game for the London club for over a month.

If Pardew allowed the winger to go out on loan then fans would be hoping and praying that he would love the chance to rejoin Wolves as the club could certainly do with his skills and expertise to lift spirits.

Richard Stearman

Stearman's move to Fulham in the summer is one that left many of the fans around Molineux baffled and confused.

At the time of his sale, he had started all four league games under Kenny Jackett and was captaining the side in the absence of Danny Batth, but he was then oddly sold to Championship rivals Fulham.

Wolves' defence was noticeably youthful so many fans saw it encouraging to have 28-year-old Stearman at the heart of the defence as an experienced head.

Stearman sometimes came under criticism, but on the whole he was a reliable defender and he had built up a formidable partnership with Danny Baath last season.

Kenny Jackett defended the sale, insisting that the likes of Kortney Hause and Ethan Ebanks-Landell were ready to step up to the mark.

Mike Williamson has now come in permanently after a successful loan spell earlier in the season to support Danny Baath and the rest of the defence but whether he is any better than Richard Stearman really remains to be seen.

Tomasz Kuszczak

The experienced Polish shot-stopper only played for the Molineux outfit for a season, but in the absence of the injured Carl Ikeme he put in an array of impressive performances to help the club finish strongly.

He played 13 games for Kenny Jackett's side after Ikeme was ruled out for the season, and managed to have two runs of three successive clean sheets.

At the end of last season, the club couldn't agree a new deal with Kuszczak, so the former Manchester United 'keeper made the controversial move down the M6 to rivals Birmingham.

In his maiden season with the Blues, Kuszczak has played every game and has helped the club to within just 3 points of the play-offs after 31 games.

Wolves meanwhile are languishing eight points behind Gary Rowett's side and will be wondering if they should have done more to keep the 33-year-old at the club.

Sam Vokes

vokes999

It's been four years since the Welshman made the switch to Turf Moor, but since then he has gone from strength to strength for the Clarets.

Four years before that, he signed for Wolves from Bournemouth under Mick McCarthy, and scored on his debut to rescue a 2-2 draw against Plymouth on the opening day of the 2008/2009 season.

The club romped to the Championship title that year, with Vokes often forced to come on as a substitute due to the goalscoring form of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo.

His chances were once again limited in the Premier League and he was never able to bag himself a top-flight goal.

During the three years that Wolves were in the Premier League, he was loaned out to the likes of Leeds United, Bristol City, Sheffield United, Norwich City, Burnley and Brighton.

In July 2012, Stale Solbakken sold the Welshman to Burnley and there he scored five goals in his first season with the club, as Wolves suffered a successive relegation to find themselves in League One.

In the 2013/14 season he got the chance to prove his potential thanks to the departure of Charlie Austin, and he scored 21 goals in 44 appearances to help the club to get promoted to the Premier League.

Although he was only able to score once for the Clarets in the top flight as they were relegated after one season, there's no denying that he's grown into a strong player that is a handful for any Championship opposition.

The club may well be pondering whether they sold the 26-year-old striker too soon and whether they should have give him more of a chance at Molineux.

Wolves fans - do you agree with the players that I have picked? Are they any other players that should be on this list that haven't been included?
