Last season Mick McCarthy further enhanced an already glowing reputation by leading his Ipswich Town team into the Championship play-offs.

Although his team came unstuck to local rivals and eventual winners Norwich City, it was still a fantastic season nonetheless for the Tractor Boys.

The 2015/16 campaign has started in decent fashion and the club are currently a few points away from the top six once again as we approach a make or break Christmas period.

McCarthy has kept the spine of his team together this season but recent performances have suggested that a dip into the January transfer market could be necessary.

Here Football League World's Lee Clarke takes a look at FIVE players Ipswich Town should look to take to Portman Road during January.

Alex Iwobi

The Arsenal starlet looks set to be the next Arsenal youngster to emerge from the conveyor belt of talent, and Ipswich could do with another striker.

Iwobi made his debut for the Gunners' first-team during a Capital One Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday earlier on in the season, and is blessed with pace and an eye for goal.

With Daryl Murphy struggling for form and David McGoldrick struggling for fitness, Iwobi could be an option for boss Mick McCarthy to pursue.

Yann Kermorgant

AFC Bournemouth's French attacker just isn't getting a look in during their first campaign in the Premier League, and a move away from the south coast looks likely.

The striker netted 17 goals last season to aid the Cherries in their promotion push and he would be a real coup for any Championship side.

Mick McCarthy has already taken a pop on one Cherries forward in Brett Pitman, and it would be no surprise to see him take a punt on the Frenchman too.

Leonardo Ulloa

Another striker who could take McCarthy's fancy is Leicester City's out-of-favour striker Ulloa.

Despite a great start to his career at the King Power Stadium, injury and a change of management have contributed to a period of restricted first-team football.

McCarthy would welcome a striker of Ulloa's experience and he would compliment a youthful looking squad.

Ryan Mason

The Spurs youngster has seen his development stall somewhat this season after struggling to force his way into the first-team picture.

A loan move could be good for the central midfielder, and a club like Ipswich Town would really suit Mason's style.

Hard to imagine Spurs letting him leave the club long-term but certainly for the rest of this season, the chances of a loan move seem perfectly feasible.

Joao Teixeira

The attacking midfielder would add some much needed flair to Mick McCarthy's Ipswich team and would add goals to his team also.

The Liverpool youngster was a standout performer in last month's Capital One Cup tie with AFC Bournemouth, and after impressing on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion last season, another loan spell could soon be on the cards.

At 22-years-old, the Portuguese player needs to be playing regular football and a move into the Championship would allow him to develop his game even further.
