Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest ended their long search for a new head coach this morning when they announced the appointment of Frenchman Philippe Montanier into the vacant role.

The former Real Sociedad and Rennes manager comes with a solid background in European football and his remit will be to improve on last season’s 16th placed finish, which was seen by many as an underachievement.

The squad that Montanier will inherit at the City Ground boasts a considerable amount of talent and with a few tweaks, he will be of the belief that the club can challenge in and around the top six.

The Reds will take on Burton Albion in their first Championship fixture next season and with the new head coach will undoubtedly be keen to fly out of the blocks in 2016/17.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at five players who could join the Montanier revolution at Nottingham Forest.

Jeremie Boga

Boga looks set to leave on loan next season

There is a strong possibility that Montanier may look to recruit players who he has worked with previously and Boga fits that bill.

The central midfielder is a product of the Chelsea youth academy and signed for Rennes at the start of last season on loan, scoring twice in 27 games in Ligue 1.

The 19-year-old can play as an orthodox central midfielder, or in a more advanced number ten role and Montanier might feel that the youngster can do a good job for the Reds next season.

Andreas Pereira

The Manchester United youngster looks set to depart Old Trafford this summer and a loan move to the Championship could be on the horizon.

The Belgian-born forward has been a standout performer for the Red Devils’ development squad but will no doubt be craving some first-team action next season.

Pereira will have no shortage of admirers should United let him leave the club temporarily and Forest could show a real statement of intent by securing a loan move for the 20-year-old.

Marcin Wasilewski

The former Leicester City man was released by the Premier League champions at the end of last season and he would be a shrewd signing for any Championship club.

The Polish defender is versatile to the point where he can play in the centre of defence or in a right-back slot, which would make him a quality acquisition for the new Forest boss.

The Reds are somewhat light in the full-back positions and Wasilewski would provide decent cover in that area, whilst he would probably become first choice in the heart of defence.

Nelson Oliveira

The Portuguese striker was a solid loan signing for the Reds last season and he has since been told by his current club Benfica that he can leave permanently.

Forest would welcome the return of the Portugal international into their squad, if the price is right and he would work well in tandem with Britt Assombalonga.

The 24-year-old netted nine times in his maiden season with the Reds and worked well as a lone striker during his time with the club.

With age on his side, Oliveira would become a quality player for Forest should Montanier choose to bring him back to the City Ground.

Joel Ekstrand

The Swedish central defender was released by Watford last season having failed to play any football during the 205/16 campaign.

The central defender played 24 times as the Hornets were promoted through the play-offs in 2014/15 and his commanding presence would make him a good signing for the Reds.

With Kelvin Wilson departing the City Ground and Jack Hobbs short of fitness, the Reds could do with some strength in depth at the back and Ekstrand would aid that requirement.

The 27-year-old would be available on a free transfer and that makes his signing all the more appealing to Forest.

Nottingham Forest fans, would you welcome the signing of these five players? Who else would you like to see signed by the club?
