Charlton are strapped to the bottom of the Championship.

It's a dire situation in South London, the club who were gracing the Premier League but a few years ago are in tatters for a pile of reasons that have fans convinced that this is a rot that will not stop at the end of this season.

Owner Roland Duchâtelet has been the target for an awful lot of abuse, the fans identifying him as the man who has caused this catastrophe. Ninety minutes of dismal football are followed by weekly demonstrations against the Belgian.

The Charlton faithful particularly despise the fact that he seems far more interested in the other clubs he owns such as Standard Liege, which has taken the focus off the Addicks and has seen the club generally bring in players only from Belgium.

They have been active in making sure they bring in players to keep them up, and though their fate looks sealed, could these FIVE loan signings help them avoid the drop?

Matt Miazga - Chelsea

Matthew Miazga

Chelsea are infamous for scouring the globe for top young talent that they'll whip up and sign in a flash. Usually, what follows is loan spell after loan spell, but this wasn't the case for Miazga when the Blues snapped him up.

Miazga was touted as the MLS's best defender despite being the tender age of 20-years-old, and despite the MLS's back lines being quite poor, that's still quite an impressive title to hold.

It doesn't look like he'll be getting much football towards the end of the season, and could use a bit of Championship football to break him into to English football. Charlton's defence is an enormous issue, and he could be very useful.

Adam Matthews - Sunderland

Matthews was signed from Celtic over the summer by Sunderland and has, undoubtedly, served as back up at best in the Black Cats' relegation dog fight this season, with a solitary appearance so far.

He will undoubtedly be keen to play a bit of football, and has shown quality in Scotland with Celtic. He's also been linked with Leeds already as they eye up a loan spell as well.

As before, Charlton have a quite disgusting defensive record and could use a boost in their ranks if they want to compete.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - Chelsea

Another Chelsea youngster, Loftus-Cheek has just seen a significant pay rise after signing a new deal at the club, perhaps hoping to be included in the Chelsea eleven a little more often.

He's very much liked by the Chelsea fans, but could certainly use a lot more match experience as he barely gets a look in at the best of time for the Champions, even though this has been a particularly poor season for his club.

Charlton could undoubtedly do with sureing up their midfield with some more talent, and Loftus-Cheek could potentially be the one to fill that hole.

Rolando Aarons - Newcastle

Undoubtedly a superbly talented young winer, Aarons burst on to the scene last season, making his debut against Manchester City on the opening day and scoring his first goal two weeks later.

He's currently being eyed up by Arsenal and Manchester City as his contract expires during the summer, but unfortunately isn't getting the minutes he wants at Newcastle at the moment during their struggles.

He would be an explosive addition to Charlton's squad and would add pace and strength to their flanks.

Kwesi Appiah - Crystal Palace

It was a fantastic move for Kwesi Appiah when Steve Clarke made the bizarre decision to take him on loan in March last year, despite being on loan at Cambridge United during the first half of the season and scoring six goals.

He was very impressive for the Royals, however, his pace is extremely difficult to deal with and causes defences an enormous amount of trouble. He added to Derby's capitulation last season, scoring in a 3-0 win for the Royals.

He could add to Charlton's attacking options and provide the energy and goals to keep them afloat in the Championship.
