As expected, Rotherham United are finding life in the Championship difficult following promotion from League One last term.

The Millers sit 12th in the Championship table after twelve league outings, having won three times, drawing twice and losing seven times.

Paul Warne's men got off to a somewhat decent start, winning three of their opening seven league games, however after a run of five games without a win, it seems that January can't come quick enough so that the Yorkshire club can strengthen, after making just three permanent signings in the summer.

After a week off with an international break, the Millers can now look to prepare for their crunch match with Bolton Wanderers next weekend, at the New York Stadium.

But with the transfer window drawing ever closer, here, we take a look at five players that should be on Rotherham's radar in January.

It's clear that Rotherham are struggling for goals - they have scored just nine in the league this season and their top goalscorer is Jamie Proctor, with three goals to his name.

To resolve this issue, United should definitely look to raid their Yorkshire counterparts and sign Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis - the 26-year old has scored nine times in fifteen appearances for Donny this season and could be tempted with a move across Yorkshire if the fee is right.

After being reportedly close to signing for the Millers in the summer, Warne should definitely look to go in for Nottingham Forest's Yates in January as he looks set for a loan move away from the City Ground.

The 20-year old impressed out on loan at Notts County and Scunthorpe United last term, and could be a shrewd addition for the Millers.

Should a move for Yates fail to materialise, then Warne should still look to keep an eye at the City Ground and move in for Liam Bridcutt.

The midfielder has become an outcast at Forest, and at 29-years old, he still has a lot to offer at this level and would be available at a cut-price.

The Millers have conceded 19 goals in the league this season, and they need to shore up their defence if they are to avoid relegation this season, hence why former Bolton midfielder and now free-agent Jan Kirchhoff could be a shrewd addition.

The versatile defender, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, stands at 6-foot-5, and would definitely help in cementing their defence.

Another leader that Rotherham could look to approach is another free-agent in Russell Martin.

The 32-year old's nine-year stint at Norwich City came to an end at the expiry of his contract last term, and is an experienced player at this level who could secure the Millers' status in the division this season.
