Swansea City look short of confidence and are in trouble of being in a Premier League relegation scrap if they continue their disappointing first half of the season.

The Jacks are certainly underachieving as they sit in 15th place and are without a win in five league games.

Garry Monk has increasingly been under pressure at the club, who have previously qualified for a Europa League spot in 2014 and looked like an established Premier League.

The South Wales side have some good players who are on the fringes of the first team and would start far more regularly for a Championship club.

They have been linked with several players such as Burnley’s Michael Keane in recent weeks to bolster their squad, but they will have to balance the books in order to sign some fresh faces in January to propel them up the league.

Monk will have to make the right decisions in January to which players he decides are in his plans for the foreseeable future, and the players he needs to release to reignite their careers in the Championship.

Marvin Emnes

The striker has really struggled to make an impact for the Swans this season and looks to be behind in the pecking order to Bafetimbi Gomis and Eder.

He has only made one appearance for Swansea this season in their Capital One Cup tie against York City.

Emnes has a proven Championship record after scoring 27 goals in his time at Middlesbrough.

The best option for Emnes would be to drop down a division to gain some playing time, and he will likely have a number of clubs interested in his services.

Angel Rangel

The Spanish right-back has served Swansea well for over a decade and was a real fan favourite when Michael Laudrup was in charge.

However, he has fallen out of favour this season and has been replaced by Kyle Naughton, who was signed for £5 million in January from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 34-year-old made his first Premier League appearance for the club this season against Spurs a few weeks ago, and also featured in two Capital One Cup ties.

Rangel does provide a good cover for Naughton, but will be forced to reconsider his future if he continues to sit on the bench.

Jordi Amat

The former Spanish Under-21 international featured regularly for Swansea this season, but has been pushed out of the squad by Federico Fernandez, who has a good partnership with Wales captain Ashley Williams.

There was speculation in the summer that Amat would move back to Spain in the summer after being linked with a move to Real Betis.

Amat looked a solid proposition for the Swans last season and would be an excellent centre-back for a Championship club.

Matt Grimes

The England Under-20 captain is pushing for a starting place in the squad, but is struggling to compete with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The youngster has featured twice in the Capital One Cup this season, scoring one goal, but manager Monk is yet to include him in a Premier League game.

Grimes obviously has great potential and continues to work hard to push for a place, but he would benefit from dropping down a league to make Monk notice his undoubted potential.

Franck Tabanou

Franck Tabanou has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by in South Wales, with his only senior appearances arriving in Capital One Cup ties against York City and Hull City.

The French full-back is yet to feature in the Premier League after a £3.5 million summer switch from St Etienne.

The form of Neil Taylor has prevented him playing more and the 26-year-old has often not even made the match squad of late.

Last month, he prompted a sharp response from Monk after complaining about his limited game-time in the French media. Tabanou has picked up an injury in training this week, but when he returns in the New Year, he may want to reconsider his future.
