This season, the race for to the Premier League in the Sky Bet Championship is incredibly close, with an array of teams who very close at the top end of the table.

This is why it's vital for clubs in the promotion hunt to strengthen their squads in the upcoming January transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday are handily placed in the Championship, they are currently seventh in the table on 29 points just outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Carlos Carvalhal's side will undoubtedly be looking to bring players in during the transfer window, whilst the club may want to move a few players on in order to bring in recruits of real quality, in the hope of the pushing them on to become real contenders for automatic promotion.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Anthony Yeo are FIVE players Sheffield Wednesday fans should say goodbye to in January......

Cameron Dawson

The 20-year-old keeper has not featured this term for Wednesday, who currently have four keepers on the books.

A first-team start seems quite far off for the former England-U18 shot stopper, with current Owls number one Kieren Westwood flourishing at Hillsborough.

He has previously been out on loan to Plymouth Argyle and Alfreton, and a loan move in January would be good for his future development, as he is reaching the stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular first-team football.

Liam Palmer

Liam is a product of Sheffield Wednesday's youth academy and in early seasons showed lots of promise.

However, the 24-year-old midfielder has struggled to become a regular starter under Carvalhal this season, and looks like he is behind a few in the pecking order at the Championship club.

The versatile midfielder is not making an impact at this level, and perhaps a drop down a league for a season or two will help propel his career to new levels.

Claude Dielna

Dielna is midway through a three-year deal,  and the powerful  defender has not been in the first team this season, only making the bench on a number of occasions.

The 26-year-old French defender should be looking at first-team football and will probably do a good job for another second tier team.

Whether it be a loan or permanent deal, Dielna needs to be playing first-team football week in week out, thus he could be a player that Wednesday fans may need to say bye to in January.

Atdhe Nuhiu

Atdhe Nuhiu

The 6ft 6 Austrian striker signed on a free transfer in 2013 has shown glimpses for brilliance in his time at Hillsborough, but for a team looking to gain promotion at any level, let alone the Championship, goals are what count from your forward line and he simply hasn't delivered that.

This term he has made eight appearances scoring three goals.

His most prolific season saw him score eight, still not quite good enough - you may argue that he brings other dimensions to the team but I don't buy that, so offloading Nuhiu and bringing in a more prolific forward is key.

Sergiu Bus

The highly-rated striker has yet to find any goal scoring form for the Owls since signing from CSKA Sofia in the summer, and he could really use a run of games to help him get some form.

Bus was signed on a three-and-a-half year deal, after impressing scoring 10 goals in 19 games in the Bulgarian top flight, which is why the Owls brought him to the club, so with this in mind, perhaps a loan spell at a lower league club would be beneficial.

Bus is in the same boat as Atdhe Nuhiu, with both strikers down the pecking order at the Sheffield club, with the likes of Lucas Joao and Gary Hooper seemingly ahead of them in the race for a starting berth.
