Preston North End have had a fantastic first season back in the Championship, thanks mainly to the management of Simon Grayson and, of course, the squad itself.

They have been consistent defensively, solid in midfield and their strikers have chipped in with key goals, although maybe not as many as some fans may have hoped.

Grayson has already admitted to the Lancashire Evening Post that he has already drawn up a list of players who, in an ideal scenario, he would like to sign.

On the following pages are FIVE players that would be good signings for the club to make this summer, that could ultimately give them a serious shot at the top six in the Sky Bet Championship next season......

Tom Bradshaw

Bradshaw was linked to Preston in January, with a reported bid rejected by his current club Walsall.

The 23- year-old has been in fine goalscoring form in League One this season, scoring 17 as his club narrowly missed out on automatic promotion.

If any interest from Preston is followed up, they will face strong competition however, with various other clubs reportedly chasing Bradshaw's signature.

With a lack of goals from Preston's strikers needing to be addressed this summer, Bradshaw would be a decent addition to a squad in need of firepower up front.

Sam Johnstone

Manchester United goalkeeper Johnstone has already had two loan spells at Preston, one being in January of this season and the other being last season, where he spent the second half of the season at Deepdale helping the club to play off success.

Johnstone was born in Preston and attended the recent home game against Burnley in person, so it would not be a huge surprise if the goalkeeper was to move to the club permanently.

He also has family history at North End, with his father Glenn - also a goalkeeper - playing for the club in the 1992/93 season.

Johnstone may become surplus to requirements at United, especially if a move for young Polish stopper Kacper Chorazka is made, with Preston the ideal destination for the 23-year-old.

RoShaun Williams

RoShaun Williams

Perhaps the most unlikely move to be made of the five on this list, but Williams has impressed for Man United's U21's in recent months, and could be sent out on loan next season.

North End would potentially be one of the clubs interested in a loan move for the young centre back, especially considering the links Simon Grayson has with United's U21 manager, Warren Joyce.

Grayson has moved for Ben Pearson, Liam Grimshaw and Johnstone in recent months - all from United's reserve side - with Will Keane having spent the first part of the season on loan at Deepdale, and with Preston lacking real depth in the centre back position, Williams could be seen as a short-term option for the club.

Dean Marney

Marney currently plies his trade for Lancashire rivals Burnley, but there is no reason why he could not make the move over to Preston this summer.

Marney has been a key player in Burnley's success this season on their way back to the Premier League, but with manager Sean Dyche's reported interest in Aston Villa's Ashley Westwood and his unwillingness to rotate, Marney may struggle to get game time in the centre of Burnley's midfield.

Despite the fact that Preston are well stocked in their midfield ranks, Marney would add an extra element to Preston's play, especially given he is competent both defensively and going forward.

His experience of being in successful Championship sides makes this move one worth considering.

Adam Reach

Reach has spent the season at North End on loan from Middlesbrough and has had an exceptional season.

Simon Grayson has already expressed his willingness to explore a permanent deal for the winger.

However, a stumbling block in the way of any deal for him is the transfer fee - he may be deemed surplus to requirements by Boro but he was their Young Player of the Year last season - and his wages, which could prove out of North End's range. There is no doubting, however, that if Preston were able to conclude a deal, Reach would be an exceptional signing for the club.

If a deal cannot be completed, fellow loanee Callum Robinson should also be considered.

Winger Robinson is out of contract at parent club Aston Villa in the summer, and there are doubts as to whether his current deal will be extended following Villa's relegation from the Premier League
