Nottingham Forest recently sacked boss Dougie Freedman after 14 months in charge of the club, and the search is well underway to find a successor.

The team are currently languishing down in 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship, in what has been an incredibly mediocre season for the Reds.

Despite a transfer embargo which has been placed upon Forest this season, the club are still blessed with some very good players and it is fair to say that the club should be higher up the table.

Injury problems have played their part and some rotten loan recruits haven’t helped the situation with the squad either.

Chris O’Grady

One of the signings, who didn’t work in the favour of recently departed boss Dougie Freedman, was that of loan striker Chris O’Grady.

Brighton must have seen Forest coming when it came to taking the lethargic centre forward on loan for the season, with the 30-year-old struggling to make the bench at times this season.

If O’Grady was struggling for a lift back down to Brighton, I am sure there would be several Reds supporters queuing up to cart him back down south in a flash.

Remarkably, he has netted twice this season, in games against Reading and Fulham but has largely been ineffective during his time at the City Ground.

Danny Fox

The forgotten man at Nottingham Forest, Fox has not featured in a match day squad since August and time is surely running out on his career at the club.

The left-back came in for a barrage of criticism from supporters following a run of poor form, and it was reported in January that a Championship club was interested in the player, although a move never came to fruition.

Fox has had a troubled spell in the East Midlands and it is best for both parties if Fox leaves for pastures new during the summer months.

Dexter Blackstock

Another striker who Forest will probably look to offload in the summer is long-serving player Blackstock.

In a seven-year spell with the club, the ex-Queens Park Rangers man has netted 41 goals in 160 games and has been a decent servant for the club.

His goal against Bristol City back in 2009 during a loan spell goes down as the goal that kept Forest in the Championship, and supporters do have fond memories of old when it comes to the striker.

Nowadays he just isn’t up to scratch however and if Forest are serious about challenging for honours towards the top of the table, then Blackstock must depart.

Robert Tesche

The German midfielder is one of the highest earners at the City Ground and with his contract due to expire this summer, talk has turned towards whether or not he will be offered a new one.

Tesche isn’t the worst player in the Forest squad by any means, but at the same time he is unfortunate enough to play in a position where the squad is already pretty well stocked, and that could be telling when it comes to handing out new deals.

More often than not the 28-year-old is ineffective in games and given his mammoth wage, Forest could opt to cut the former Hamburg man free.

Kelvin Wilson

Nottingham-born defender Wilson is out of contract in the summer and his lack of game time this season seems to indicate that this will be his last with the club.

Over the past year or so Wilson’s form has been okay, without being spectacular and it looks as though it will be an amicable split come the end of the season.

I can’t see too many fans being up in arms about the departure of Wilson, who has at times looked jaded, slow and panicky whilst in possession, during second spell as a Nottingham Forest player.

Wilson will no doubt continue his career somewhere else but at 30-years-old, and with Forest having some bright academy prospects coming through at the back, the time looks right to move the ex-Celtic man on.
