Since coming up to the Championship, as one of the smaller sides financially, Huddersfield Town have been burdened with the label of being a selling club.

Over the past three seasons, the West Yorkshire side has seen the likes of Jordan Rhodes, Adam Clayton and most recently Jacob Butterfield leave the club. All of which could walk into any Championship side.

Dean Hoyle's goal is a commendable one. Whereas most clubs have a sense of desperation to reach the Premier League and reap the financial rewards for doing so.

Hoyle and Huddersfield, on the other hand, have taken a more sensible approach with the focus on a sustainable financially sound Championship club, which Huddersfield can be now described as.

Despite the solid foundations that Dean Hoyle has built the club on after the harrowing period of administration before joining the club, on the field, despite bettering their league position year after year, the word stagnation was becoming associated with the club.

The emphasis was on surviving and treading water above the relegation zone, they were doing just that however Dean Hoyle felt a culture change was necessary and instead he brought in David Wagner.

A risk and a radical change have led to Huddersfield's revitalisation and the club and fans are now riding a wave of expectation.

David Wagner's success has been on a very low budget and with a squad that he didn't assemble and this success has had the fans dreaming what Huddersfield could do, and where they could go with David Wagner in charge, however, all his good work could be undermined if their stars are sold again this season.

This article looks at FIVE Huddersfield Town players that they simply cannot afford to lose..................

Nahki Wells

wellsssss

The most obvious choice for this article is the Bermudan striker, Nahki Wells.

Until this season, his form has been questionable as he has struggled to bridge the gap between League 1 and the Championship, however, this has already been his most successful season at the club.

The arrival of David Wagner has played a large part in his revival at the club as a change of the system and a change of the playing style has helped him to score 10 goals in 18 appearances for the West Yorkshire.

Although he is a frustrating figure to some of the fans because he can spurn chances and seem disinterested if he goes long periods without a chance or if he is isolated.

However, there is no doubt about his quality and no doubt that he'd continue to develop under David Wagner and he looks like he enjoys his football under Wagner.

Despite some criticism he draws, as Huddersfield's record signing, he clearly is a huge part of the West Yorkshire club's future. Without a doubt, Huddersfield would be struggling this season without his contribution and he will be an integral part of David Wagner's plans for next season.

Joel Lynch

Although Huddersfield's defence leaves a lot to be desired since they earned promotion, one of the most consistent performers is Joel Lynch.

Prone to errors and rash decisions, Lynch can sometimes be a liability at the back, however, the vast majority of the time, he is a dominant defender who has the ability to step out of defence and push the entire team further up the field with surging runs.

Lynch's passing range is also more similar to that of a central midfielder rather than a central defender as he can transition defence into attack with single passes and that excellent distribution at the back is key for how David Wagner wants Huddersfield to play.

Defensively, Lynch is strong and athletic as he covers ground with ease and can also compete and battle with some of the toughest opponents in the Football League.

Although he's far from perfect, he has the makings of an excellent Championship defender and if David Wagner can develop and mould him as well as finding a long-term partner for him then he could be a key component of Wagner and Huddersfield's plans for the near future.

Philip Billing

Phillip Billing

One of the brightest prospects at Huddersfield and sure to attract attention and suitors is Philip Billing.

Although he has been around Huddersfield's squad over recent seasons, this season has been his breakthrough season as has taken the mantle of playing in the heart of the midfield and thrived.

The young Danish international has been dominant both providing excellent defensive cover and contributing with goals and positive runs forward,

His calmness and composure in the centre of the park whilst having supreme technical ability with a sublime first touch is what makes him special and at only 19, Premier League clubs will be looking at him very soon.

Despite the fact that Billing came into the side following his injury against Leeds United because of an injury to Emyr Huws, he has thrived and made the step up with ease.

He could and should be one of the first names on the team sheet from now on and the opportunity to play regular first team football whilst at a side that is on the up should be enough to persuade him to stay at the club for the foreseeable future.

Joe Lolley

Another bright young talent that David Wagner will be looking to keep hold of as interest around him grows is Joe Lolley.

A winger who enjoys cutting inside onto his stronger foot, he is unorthodox to watch and unorthodox to defend against.

One of his most impressive features is his versatility as he can play on either the left flank or the right flank or even in the number 10 role behind Nahki Wells.

He is a player with tremendous technical ability with his close control and dribbling ability allowing him to glide past opponents like they seemingly weren't there.

Lolley's decision making and final ball are sometimes lacking which is expected for someone of his age and as he progresses and develops under David Wagner, the improvement will be there to see on the pitch.

As David Wagner assesses his relatively young squad in the summer, Joe Lolley will be one player that he will definitely want to keep as he suits Wagner's style of play and possesses the ability and potential to go to the very top.

Harry Bunn

bunn321

Slightly underrated at Huddersfield but a player that they can't afford to lose is Harry Bunn.

The winger quietly goes about his business however he has the most assists for Huddersfield this season and only Alan Judge of Brentford and Johann Berg Gudmundsson of Charlton has more assists than him.

As well as 7 assists, Bunn has 5 goals for Huddersfield and playing in a deeper position, this is an impressive tally for the former Man City starlet.

For his size, he is built well and has the upper body strength to battle and compete physically also because of the lower centre of gravity, he also has the ability to dribble around players with ease and create chances.

Like Wells, he has thrived in Wagner's 4-2-3-1 system as he has the positivity and belief to make positive runs and try to stamp his authority on the game, he also has shown intelligence to interlink with Wells and the other attacking midfielders to create space for others to use.

There is still an issue that Bunn is still too one dimensional as he looks to cut inside constantly rather than go round the outside of the defender and put crosses in the box.

However as he is only 23, he has time on his side and with time, he will improve mixing up his game and under David Wagner, he could be a very talented footballer who is integral to Huddersfield's attacking play.
