Newcastle United are currently struggling in Premier League but have a big squad of players.

It may be best for some players on the fringes of Steve McClaren's squad to drop down to the Championship to get more game time.

Newcastle have some talented players in their squad, and some fringe players are struggling to break their way in.

Newcastle boss Steve McLaren may look to let some players leave to free up some of the wage bill to bring in new recruits.

Its not just fringe players that may need to drop down to the Championship.

Newcastle have some talented young players who will be itching to get some game time and perhaps prove themselves in the Championship.

Here are FIVE Newcastle players who should drop down to the Championship.....

Gabriel Obertan

The former Manchester United winger, has found game time at Newcastle hard to come by in recent seasons and particularly under manager Steve McClaren.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has a lot to offer and would be a good pick up for a Championship club, who are looking for a direct winger.

Obertan is by no means finished as a player at 26, and the Frenchman will probably want to be playing regularly even if that means dropping down a level .

Ivan Toney

The 19 year old striker joined the Magpies in the summer from League Two side Northampton Town , and was one of the Football League's brightest young talents.

Toney has raw talent which could be developed by a Championship manager.

It is unlikely Toney will play for Newcastle this season atleast, so it may be a good move for the striker to join a Championship club and gain further experience.

Toney has impressed for the Magpies under-21 side so far, scoring four goals in all four of his appearances this season.

Toney would be a good signing for any side looking for further options upfront in what is a challenging Championship season.

Rolando Aarons

Aarons is another product of Newcastle's academy and has lots of potential. The pacey winger is only 19, but has featured for Newcastle in the Premier League on a number of occasions.

Newcastle brought in a number of attacking and wide players in the summer , and Aarons has seemingly fallen down the pecking order and is struggling to overtake the likes of Wijnaldum and Thauvin in the Newcastle team .

A loan move for the winger may be a wise choice to gain more experience of the Football League and further his development.

He would be a good addition for any Championship side looking for a pacey winger.

Yoan Gouffran

The Frenchman joined the Magpies in 2011 under former manager Alan Pardew, and has made 81 league appearances scoring 11 goals.

Gouffran has plenty of top-flight experience after long spells with Bordeaux and Caen in Ligue 1.

Gouffran has struggled to claim a spot in the Newcastle side and struggled to show his talents in England so far. despite playing over 81 games.

The 26-year-old still has quite a lot to offer and a move to a Championship club on loan in January could reignite his career.

Emmanuel Riviere

Riviere joined Newcaslte in 2014 from Monaco after scoring 14 goals in 44 games - Riviere has struggled to adapt to English football and is out of the first-team picture at the moment.

One goal in 23 appearances suggest the 25-year-old isn't quite ready for the top-flight, so a move to the Championship may be a good idea to gain experience.
